New backing track site

Hi,

I've recently launched a new guitar backing track site @ www.guitarbackingtrack.com and was wondering if anyone would like to contribute with BTs? On the site you can play BTs using a flash player (loads the BT fast!) or you can donwload them as MP3.

Any feedback on the site is appreciated! And also all submissions of backing tracks.

Should I be Grumpy?

Ogregod,
Had a quick look at your sight and it looks fun. But..

I'm not sure whether I should be flattered or insulted... Either way I'm a bit "uncomfortable" at the moment.

You've some of my work on the site. Ordinarily I would be pleased, I'm all for sharing - that's why the tracks are out there in the first place.

What troubles me is two things; on your intro page you state that you've gained the permission of the people that prepared the tracks, in my case that's not accurate (but if asked I'd be happy to accede); and also that the files have been edited to remove my header data.

It's entirely possible that someone else has forwarded the files to you or something's happened somewhere, perhaps you could get in touch?

Gary

Hi Gary,

sorry about this. I got a big submission of about 200 BTs a while back. Maybe your BTs was contained in that archive. I should have checked better.

I've made a script that processes all files I put on the site. It takes MP3, WMA, WAV etc. as input and outputs the MP3 and SWF (flash) files that is used on the site. At the same time the headers (id tags) are modified to reflect the band and song names (a lot of them were blank). Unfortunately, it seems that it removes the current header as well.

If you want me to remove the backing tracks, please let me know. You could send me a list at webmasterXXXguitarbackingtrack.com (just change XXX to @). If you'd allow me to keep the backing tracks on the site I can fix the headers and add a "Posted by XXX" on the site. Let me know what you'd like me to do and to which BTs. Again, I'm terribly sorry about this.

My first post in ages... but I feel I must comment on this. How many of these backings have you made? If you remove every backing you didn't get permission for, you'll lose over half your archive. I see many of my backings, and many from other members here. All of mine have the info stripped out of them and it's replaced with a link to your site. So you know a little about web design, but nothing about good web etiquette. Sites like this have ruined the BT community and are a big reason nobody posts them anymore. This is pathetic

Mmm, I think someone's been a little 'naughty' as regards to getting actual permision for these tracks?
I myself have literally hundreds covering all genres, unfortunately as they've been mostly collected from magazines, and books over the years, (Some of which I've also heard on this site, AS WELL as 'Guitars 101') I don't post them on the web, preferring folk to contact me via E-Mail if they want something I've got.
I think the actual idea is sound, however to do it legally, I.E. with the authors, and the artists permission, would surely prohibit the use of a 'free' download site?
If I was the guy concerned I'd be very wary of any possible copyright infringments indeed?

With all the hoopla and whining after the guy apoligizes, offers to take the tracks down or give proper credit, I was wondering if anyone here complaining has contacted this individual to rectify this issue or was this a publicity stunt?

billandgitana is an unknown quantity at this point
A few months back I made a few backers (thanks to the how to editorials here )for a local guitarist for him to jam to and do some home recording with. I added an audio tag in the beginning of the mp3...just a simple voice before the intro to track saying who it was created by, I just pasted it right in the mix, makes them have to trim the mp3 to remove it....which he did on the final mix of the tracks....
But I understand the frustration the people are feeling about the work that went into the making of these tracks and not to get any credit for their work....

Hey guys,

thanks for all the feedback.

I must admit that I'm not any good at making backing tracks myself. I'm primarily a guitarist (and web designer), but have been using BTs for a long time. I was frustrated with the difficulties I had in tracking down tracks and the bad state of the pages that provided them (mostly forums and/or sites with slow download speed). It was also hard to locate backing tracks through search engines. So I made this page to make backing tracks more accessible, sorry if you consider it ruining the BT community.

I've had a few bulk submissions, and I do apologize for the BTs that are on my page without permission. Please let me know which ones you'd like me to remove or add thanks/links to. Again, I'm sorry for the consequences of using a script to add ID-tags to the MP3s.

Hey Ogregod I admire ya for doing it, I'd just be very wary around the permission bit, at least one of the tracks, and I suspect a few more are definetly from English guitar mags, I know cos' I have the very same tracks with the mag's, been collecting for about 15 years now.
But as I say, gotta give you some kudos for starting this site.

Here's another BT site: GuitarVoice.com. We have about 800 BT's there all submitted by members of the site. It's all free...come check it out!

Also, I'll do link exchanges if anyone is interested.
