Ok, I want to create a BT from scratch w/o MIDI

Basically,
I want to create the drum line from scratch without the MIDI.

I can play the bass parts on the songs, but I need to know how to do the drums.

Whats the easiest and cheapest way to facilitate this again, without using MIDI? I know that some say a drum machine, but are there programs out there that could basically make a drum machine outta your computer?

I am new to this.

If you're willing to use a drum machine, especially a software drum machine... why do you want to avoid MIDI?
You can write your track in MIDI, and apply very good sounding soundfonts to it...
