What I miss from both versions is that explosive slide Edward incorporates as part of the main riff. To me it is the riff. Its actually a very boring song so I think Edward did all he could to at least make a very basic chord progression shimmer like diamonds. I guess most of the original recordings punch had allot to do with that Ibanez Destroyer. I have never heard Van Halen perform the song with the original potency of the first album. Its always rushed and thinned out. Just some thoughts.

Sorry Chris, J-Mart gets my vote this time round. The cleaner sound without the phaser did it for me, although Geordie's vocals add that bit extra to your track.

At this rate, you two will be getting your own sub-forum!!!!

Thanks guys. Hey Strat78, I tried to make those big hand slides. Hard to make it really come out when recorded. Could be partially to Templetons magic.

Same here? It IS part of the track...almost like a motorbike growl. I did it on every line!

another close one, going for J-Mart this time tho

I really think that for the battles to be more comparitive the same backing is used imo.

ya can tell that Chris's band has gelled and it's blended in the whole sound of the band, where as J-Mart is going playing against a backing, not to say you didnt try to gell with the track dude (but ya'll know wot i mean )
could feel the chords being played by J-Mart, levels were a little high on the solo sections tho

great going guys

Jeffery Bravo is an unknown quantity at this point
both very good!!! I thought there was a tad too much flange on wah's sound, but thought j-mart's tone a lil too dry-exept the solo. the solo sound should have also been used for the Rythmn. I am voting for wah's...he really nailed the harmonics well, but both did a gr8 job on the solo. It's Van Halen, so it ain't easy.
