Frank Zappa - Pink Napkins (sadge)
I was inspired to post this after hearing BluesPlayer's spine tingling cover of "Watermelon in Easter Hay". I too am a huge fan of Frank, and never imagined that a lot of the guys on here are fans of his also.
This is "Pink Napkins" which I heard on one of Franks "Shut up and play yer Guitar" albums, it's a clean guitar version of the legendary " Black Napkins".
Obviously I cannot play Frank's exact lines or recreate his awesome Clean guitar tone so I did what I could..................
The playing is OK but the tone could have been much better. Anyway, take a listen if you feel so inclined lol lol

God, that's beautiful! You do yourself a disservice (same as Art)...if you make a piece come alive like this then you have ahcieved big-time. Everything sounds so rich and full. Guitars sparkle and gleam. I don't save much (not because I don't want to but I'm the world's worst hoarder (never remember where I've downloaded stuff) but I'm keeping this one.
Stunning work mate. Oh and you always know when you're listening to a FZ track when you hear chimes or a glock or whatever...inspirational player and musician.

Just been listening to a FZ album , sort of live and studio compilation put together by Dweezil .This track features twice on it , and i had never heard it before , but you really gotta hear it , this Sadge version is in my book 100% FZ in tone and feel . I think he used a Les Paul with coil tapping ? I'm watching a live in Paris show right now and hes using one . Anyway superb playing Sadge and a truly great tune to bring to our attention , Hail FZ Hail Sadge !!!!! 5 circles

Thankyou guys, I am honestly floored by your reaction to this.
It was always intended as a sort of "personal listening only" track, you know what I mean? Like when your mate calls round and say's "what you been up to recording wise then?" and you play him some stuff but don't let him hear the "personal listening only" stuff lol lol.
Thanks go to BluesPlayer for giving me the impetus to get this out of the "personal listening only" category, by way of his wonderful cover of "Watermelon in Easter Hay"...................................

eamon, the clean electric guitar was my Ibanez RS440 Roadstar into a Peavey Pro Fex pre/amp processor, using a patch I created with Compressor (probably too much lol), flanger, exciter and reverb. I added a delay later within Sonar (the recording software that I use).
The acoustic was a Takamine (I forget the model) electro acoustic which I plugged straight into the Pod 2.0 on tube preamp setting. Reverb and Delay were added later in the final mix.

excellent work sadge. There is some SERIOUS compression here but it works beautifully. There is a lovely stratty flavour to it all the way through the clean section and when the overdriven sound comes it it just floors me. Fantastic. a big 5 from me
