Moribund The Bergermeister (Peter Gabriel Cover)

An unusual choice for a guitar forum lol lol.

I handled all the instrumentation and production duties, and the vocals were performed by my mate Ted Hunter.

Ted is the "Dave Gilmour" in the British Pink Floyd Tribute band "Shine On". An awesome guitarist and vocalist, Ted can do a pretty good Peter Gabriel impersonation when he puts his mind to it!! lol lol

Excellent production and vocals. A lot of folks probably wouldn't know this song, but I can vouch for how much this sounds like the real deal.

Thanks for the feedback ksdb and Ace, much appreciated.

Ace, the recording was constructed in Sonar 5 Producer edition. The drums, keys and bass were "played in" via midi keyboard and the resulting midi tracks were then routed through Native Instruments Bandstand (a DXi soft synth plug in) and converted to audio tracks. Four tracks of guitar were added (2 clean, 2 Dirty) and then the track was passed on to Ted who added 5 vocal tracks, before returning it to me to mix and master.

The key to the tracks realistic sound is due to me sampling the first 6 bars of Gabriels Original track, ascertaining the tempo from the sample then copying and pasting it throughout the track. Check out the audio loop of the sample I used here:

I must stress that I only used this one sample for the verses and overlayed the instrumentation on top. The Bridges and Chorus parts were completely "played in" from keyboard and of course the vox are all Ted, no samples of Gabriels voice were used at all. Hope this helps, ask away if more info is required......
Cheers

Thanks for sharing the production secret. I've had to loop a sample from a recording before to try to match the tempo. You did an unbelievalbe job of matching the guitar tones. I would have been fooled at a casual listen. The percussion was probably the most different in the backing track, but otherwise, this was an almost perfect match.

ksdb, shoot me a pm about finding the tempo of a sample if you're interested. There is a mathematical formula that can be applied but I'm not about to go into it here lol lol
BTW those guitar tones were created by putting the POD 2 into "manual" mode and dicking around until they sounded close, unfortunately I didn't save the patches though........... bummer...............
