Pink Floyd- Comfortably Numb full cover (macman)Remastered:
It may sound a bit better now find it here http://homepage.mac.com/mstow/FileSharing2.html Watch out for volume if you have headphones on. the mix is still quite *hot* in volume I have it pretty much optimized for my system ...so just be cautious. ----------------------------------------------------------- A post or two back I posted a cover of "Another Brick in the Wall" and I referred to the fact that this is the "summer of George" or more aptly the summer of Floyd. I have always loved Floyd and find I can get some extremely authentic tones using my GNX3000. So I figured ....why not cover some Floyd songs to highlight the GNX3000' capabilities. I wanted to attempt this one before moving onto posting covers of other bands. http://www.digitech.com/soundcomm/pa...finallead_.mp3 I am still blending the final mix. That is a very long process so I wanted to take a step back and post what I have and see what you guys think of it. Also if I spend any more time glued to my computer with Headphones on then I think my wife is gonna go ape**** I did Vox and Guitars using my lovely GNX3000 a mentioned above. Any pointers etc would help a lot as I continue to mix and get this ready. I put it on my ipod and it plays back ok. I burnt it to CD and played it in my car and it sounds like it may need some polish and mixing. However I have a cheap ford focus and the CD player in it ain't great. So therefore maybe what I am hearing through my ipod may be a better reflection of how the mix is. Anyways as always I look forward to hearing from you all. This has been an extremely valuable learning forum for me as I am very new to recording. Mark. Last edited by macman01; 06-28-2006 at 05:00 AM. |

Sounds pretty damn good to me, if anything I'd maybe back off a little on the reverb,(On the vocals.) and it'd sound pretty cool if you could use a vocal delay on points like where the vocal starts, (E.G. Hello, hello ,hello?) but hey I think this is really cool, one of my favourite Floyd tracks! ![]() Incidentally, if you want a good backing for this with a nice clean ending, as opposed to a fade out, I have one if you want it? |

Great job on this macman
Pink floyd songs usually have a very distinguishable production , mosty low volume , lots of headroom & small amounts of overall compression etc., but before thinking about those issues ,there are a few Basic , standard things that you might want to consider ,as i can hear in your track you have a big Frequency overlap among individual instruments, try to get each track as clean as possible try a mono approach to make them sit better in the mix , use all 3 channels , avoid stereo imaging on the backing instruments . this will clean up the place a bit so can vox can sit in dead center(eg.) and snand out, same with lead guitars. best of luck Regards rez. |

I didn't really have any trouble with volume. maybe a little too much reverb. The singing was good.. The dark parts have a RW feel to it. I liked the guitar tone.. specially in the second solo.
this was really good!! |

some really great feedback here guys, thanks..I will work from the recommendations this week. I can only do so much with Garageband, post prodution.
If anyone wants a projext then it would be great if you could take the mp3 I listed above and run it through you mastering software.....Some of you guys really do a fantastic post production job.......So if anyone wants to do that...Hint Hint ...I would be very grateful |

Too be honest... I'm not a big fan of this tune, at least not listening to it by itself. I need to have it in the context of the entire "the wall" for it to really work for me.
That's why it took so long for me to listen to this. But I'll have to say your vocals are coming along nicely. But I see you made the common mistake when covering this... "there'll be no more..." then silence? I need that scream But other than that, great cover mate, keep em coming!

Gotta agree with Naif, I need that scream, but great guitar work, and the vocals are coming along nicely.
