Satriani's Flying In A Blue Dream
Hey there all.
This is my cover of Joe Satriani's "Flying In A Blue Dream".
Used an Ibanez RG1570GN and a Digitech GNX4 Guitar Workstation. Recorded direct into the PC soundcard. Recording software is Sonar 3.
Settings on the Digitech GNX4 were as follows:
Acoustic guitars L, R & C channels are a patch I got from a guitar mag and tweaked, used with FastTrack1.
Bass guitar is the Ampg Prc from the supermodels disc.
Lead guitars are a tweaked satch patch from the Digitech Sound Community created by drmike, used with Evo2.
Drums are FXpansion's BFD drum Software, programmed hit by hit.

FireJack,
Great FIABD cover, nice satch type tone and loved the whole, you captured it very well. Especially liked the sustained notes at the beginning and end. Top Job.....

I'll get the bad out of the way first, i didn't like the backer, there is a real decent BT about for the track, i'll look that up for you, because your guitaring really deserves a top notch backer.
You rarely hear this track covered, and covers of it this good are even thinner on the ground, excellent tone and playing, 5 stars

Very cool track. I've never heard Joe's version but you captured his spirit well. I got to meet him a couple of months ago here in florida. He was very nice. Great job.

my favorite satch song and you played it beautifully. i agree with avalon that the backer was a little week but the playing was fantastic. if you do any more satch covers you will have to get in touch with avalon for a backer that lives up to your playing ability. this is one of the best fiabd covers i have heard to date. fantastic post

Hey there guys.
Thanks for all the positive comments. Really appreciate it.
In reference to the rhythm section, it's not a backing track. That's me playing the 3 acoustics (L, R and C channels) the bass guitar and the drums (Dxi plugin for Sonar 3). The acoustics and bass were done using my Ibanez RG1570 through an amplifier modeller (Digitech GNX4). The drums were programmed hit by hit into Sonar 3's piano roll.
I agree that it didn't turn out too well. But I enjoy the challenge of playing each component rather than using backing tracks. Adds up to many hours of frustration and fun.
Thanks again guys.

I agree, it's a much better learning experience making your own backers, it really gets you closer to the song and to me they sounds better than the same tired BT's that make all the rounds. Ready made BT can be convenient though. Again, great work here!

I love this tune and you play it extremely well.
Like others have said the BT sounds a bit thin....but my hats off because it's a lot of work to make a backer from scratch!
Your playing is awesome man!

Nice Work
Great job dude. This isnt an easy song to play.I agree with you about making your own backing tracks as an experiance. If i never started making my own then i wouldnt have asked a lot of questions which led me to such great sites as G101 and others.Long live creation.Rock on.

Nice job. You really have the Satch tone and feel. I really like that you didn't use a pre-recorded backing track. The feedback intro was great - didn't think it was possible with a direct recording unit.
