Chords and RSI

I know this sounds a bit funny but most of the time people practise scales to avoid strains and injurys but usually when I play chords I do get strains in my fretting hand (if that's what they call it) but my picking hand is okay.
Any ideas on this?
My friends and I used to just jam away on a few chords when I come up on an idea on a riff and we improvise on that. I just play the rhythm parts and sometimes my friend lets me solo over it. ( I don't know how to play songs and I'm a bit too lazy to figure them out)

I get the same thing mate, its mostly a strain of not being used to have your hand in that position.

Remember to warm up slowly before you play and try not to give Chords the deathgrip that alot of early guitarists do, where they hold on far more tightly than necessary.

Also try and ensure your hand position is good for you and not feeling uncomfortable by just having your hand in the position of the chord.

Which particular chords are you having an issue with?
Is it standard open position chords or is this Barre Chords?
What guitar do you have?
