Colleges

I am looking for colleges around the Georgia or Virginia area that have good guitar courses. I want to major in guitar, but I really don't know how about finding the right school.

What I want to do, after college, is find a way to become a session musician.

What kind of guitar styles are you into? I'm assuming that you like classical as well (based off of your user name). I hope you do because that is probably what you are going to be studying whether you like it or not. I really don't think that many college programs are gonna give you a degree in rock guitar. The one I am in (@ U of Delaware) is mostly geared toward baroque/classical/romantic/post-romantic/20th century music and jazz.

All I can say is to find out who is the guitar instructor(s) at the university you are looking at, and do some research on their performance history, reputation, etc.

I have one in mind, but it's in Georgia, and I was looking for something in Virginia. My fiance is from there.

I do plan on studying classical and/or jazz. I have some good chops (not being vain), and by the time college comes around, in two years, I will be a load better.

Here are some links to some good classical guitar pieces/studies

This first one has a ton of pieces that are now in public domain. Check "Asturias" by Isaac Albeniz in the solo section. It's a great piece, and there are some really good versions on youtube by Andres Segovia, John Williams and Xuefei Yang. Check out other solo works by Francisco Tarrega and Augustin Barrios Mangore, to name a few.

This link has pretty much every composition by Mauro Giuliani (a guitarist from the 18th century, I believe).

Thanks. I have already learned some classical stuff... Yngwie's transcription of Paganini's fifth Caprice is a favorite of mine.

Really? I didn't know he did one. I just read them straight out of the original book of all 25 Capricci. Can you play it?

Unhappy

Chinese cell phone

I really want to have an iphone because of its fashionable shape. But it’s not cheap for a student. To my surprise, in an online store I happen to a phone similar to iphone: full touch screen, large display but much cheaper. How do you think about this one? Is it valued for me to buy?
