Notes by the taper:
This seems like a couple of generations down, it's a good to very good quality radio recording, it's slightly bassy and quite hissy. The crowd noise is odd, it filters in and out, the crowd sound quite rioutous at times actually! It's not overdubbed crowd noise (as I initially wondered) as Iggy clearly calms them down at times (like at the start of I'm a Conservative).
I have not attempted to clean this up or remix it. That is, I did, but gave up. It's pretty good quality and I couldn't improve it significantly with Audacity and the experience I have. I think it's probably 'narrow stereo' rather than mono? There seemed to be a little seperation...it would be interesting to hear any attempt to do this by someone experienced with Cool Edit / Magix / Pro Tools or whatever else is out there, as it's one of just a couple of desk recorded (as opposed to
audience recorded) gigs from this time. I've heard what Iggy fans did with a mastertape of Search and Destroy and it would if some of the 'techs' (pro or amateur) amongst Iggy fans turned their attention to gigs like this.
The other non audience recorded gig from around this time, Lyon, I torrented recently but I believe there may be a longer or stereo version out there, which I hope might emerge? In an ideal world, pre-FM tapes or full gig recordings of both this and the Lyon gig would exist, but sadly that's not the case...
I digress...this is a good gig and despite the minor imperfections well recorded. Nice synth on Sister Midnight and Funtime in particular. Dogfood at first sounds a little dispensable to my ears compared to other versions (largely due to a little wow and flutter - speed wobble - that creeps in) then Iggy saves it by intoning "you asshole" halfway through, and "you f***ing scum!" at the end. Always polite to his audience, is our Iggy!
During Lust for Life "what the f*** are you doing on my stage? Get the f*** off my stage!". And more...at the end of the song - "what are you/ Are you chickens?!"
