Because lossless encoding retains all of the original data, so it’s effectively equivalent to the original data. It’s compressed to save disk space, but the audio data is, sample for sample, identical to the source from which it was ripped. It's encoded in the highest possible quality, because it is the original music.

But more importantly, because it's my preference to trade and share. I try to stay away from lossy files as much as possible.
