I know a lot of people prefer DVD over mp4/avi/mkv. Those who understand what a container is, understand how a DVD is structured, what pixels size means etcetera will come to the same conclusion that if you rip a DVD properly, by not transcoding but merely ripping out the
MPEG stream I get a .mp4 on my HDD that, for me, has advantages over a DVD.
Discs are dead. Apple is dropping the drives model by model, just like they did with floppies. In my opinion, discs should leave asap. The DVD is the most stupid invention I have seen in tech. Forcing people to watch FBI warnings, mandatory to choose a language and such doesn't make it an enticing medium for me.
I am in the process of ripping all my DVD's to HDD. Bought a MacMini that sits underneath my TV, I can see my entire
Prince collection from the couch - no fiddling with discs.
Of course, to each his own. But sorry - I won't be uploading the whole 6.5GB as the .mp4 is an exact copy of the MPEG stream on the DVD, coming in at 2.5GB. You can of course test this yourself and compare.
