CC\'s Band\'s Jam
Here's a live recording from last thursday evening.
I though I'd post it because I rarely am able to post more than my guitar with a click track or drum sequence.
This is a full band comprised of two colleagues and another person.
We have drums, keys, bass, and yours truly on the electric fiddle.
All instruments were miked and went through a mixing table and CD recorder. Our keyboardist set it all up himself (forgetting to sound check his own rig, so you don't get to hear him very well...).
As always it's totally improvised and I cringe at some parts I wish never happened, but here it is...

Re: CC\'s Band\'s Jam
We sure were, fuckups and all. I really like the drummer. He's come a long way and is making good use of the whole set on this song.
Too bad we only get together once or twice a month.

Re: CC\'s Band\'s Jam
I curious to hear comments and criticism, as I feel that I didn't do a good job with this blues. I stayed too much in my comfort zone and I'm affraid it shows and sounds redundant after a few bars. I know how to use the whole neck, and wonder why I decided to stay in the same box (I was very tired and had a lot on my mind that night, so maybe it got in the way...) . Maybe you guys can provide some insight into this.

One thing for sure is that I'm very pleased with the production quality of this recording.

As corny as it sounds, the blues are played with feeling, so if that particular night you felt a heavy weight on your shoulders, your playing is going to reflect that. I thought you did a good job. Sure there were a few missed notes, but fuck it!
If this happens repeatedly and you feel like you are only playing in your comfort zone, work on learning some new licks, and copy some new styles to give you more selection. I don;t play VH as much as some of the musicians do here, but when I used to play his style alot, it was reflected in everything I played. So mix it up a little when you practice and play by yourself, and more will come through your technique and style.
Just my humblest of opinions.

Re: CC\'s Band\'s Jam
Good point, El jalapeno.
I usually am more conscient of my need to evolve more around the neck. I guess I was just tired and played economically to save myself and maybe to take less chances of slipping.
As it turns out my teacher has been teaching me what he knows, which is a lot more influenced by Randy Rhoads than Ed. I may have a few Eddisms because that's the way I FEEL like playing, but I tend to gravitate toward two main axles: totally bluesy, pentatonic, often mixed with modal, with a bit of Randy's influence.
I don't know if it makes any sense to anybody.
On a blues like this one of course I will weigh more on the blues side, while when I play a more Metal song I'll make more use of the modes.

Re: CC\'s Band\'s Jam
Hi CC !!!
Sorry that it's taken me so long to listen to this one, but I've got a lot of catching up to do in this forum !!!
Anyway, this sounds great, you guys really gel together ! You definitely sound comfortable, and that's good ! So you're stuck in your comfort zone, so what ? You'll move out of it gradually the more you play together.
Plus, you were probably conscious of posting it up here for everyone to listen to, which might of made you think, "I don't wanna screw up or sound crap" so you stayed in a comfort zone where you'd make fewer mistakes ?

I know the thought of posting here puts me off occasionally.
But I really like the blues licks. You are certainly playing with feeling and don't seem to get lost at any point !!!
Keep it up, you sound great !!!
