Re: converting a file to MP3 format
I am not sure myself but keep an eye out for Canyon Carver, he's our Mac guy around here and I am sure he can offer some assistance.

Re: converting a file to MP3 format
Ta daaa!!!
OK, Mac dude here. Let's see what we can do.
Simple sound sounds like the basic sound manager in Mac. My guess is that your sound file is probably AIFF, but it's irrelevant.
Before we go any furher, you need to beam your ass over to the digidesign Web site and download for free a demo version of ProTools so you can do multitracking in the future.
You can convert a sound file into an mp3, using the iTunes software. That's how I make mp3 files out of all my recordings from ProTools.
1) You can physically drag your simple sound file onto the library window of iTunes, where iTunes will do the rest. In few seconds you'll hear a happy chime sound and your file will have been converted.
2) You can also do it this way:
Open iTunes and click on Advanced and scroll to Convert to MP3. This will open a browser that you will use to locate the sound file you want to convert. Follow the instructions and you're in Fat City!
IMPORTANT!
The file that was on your desktop is not converted. To find the mp3, go to the iTunes window, highlight the name of the converted track and press Apple R. This command will take you to where the mp3 has been stored. This is the file you want to use when uploading it here.
Also you can determine the degree of compression and the quality of the mp3 you are creating/converting by using the preference menu of iTunes and modifiying the settings to suit your needs (also self-explanatory once you get to the preferences). This of course affects the document size, but since Eric allows lots of rooms for downloads, so I suggest you pick the highest resolution possible; it will sound all the better.
I hope this helps.
Don't hesitate to ask more questions if you need.

Got rid of iTunes? Why in the heck would anyone do that?
Go to apple.com. They have it there.
Do you run os9 or X?

Re: converting a file to MP3 format
I understand there is no ProTools for OSX for now, which is why I didn't bother upgrading so far.
I have the ProTools for Mac install on my hard drive (free version)
it's 18MB.
If you have a DSL connection I could try to mail it to you.

Re: converting a file to MP3 format
It's not a size issue at all.
Make sure that the file name you are uploading ends wit .mp3
Sometimes it's necessary for the operation to be successful.
Otherwise, you can PM Eric who may be able to assist you.
