Cut Short (my first piano/guitar peice)

Well this was the first real time I tried to put my piano Skills and my guitar playing together, I rather like the outcome and its rough and I slip up once or twice. I wrote this back I think last August, I used my old effects pedal and I did it in the middle of the night and couldn't turn it up all the way so you can hear me picking everything, but hey it is easy to ignore. I would like some comments constructive hopefully, I've gotten alot better since then but my style has stayed pretty similiar.(I just turned 17 the first of June so be easy)

You have some nice guitar licks in there dude. The whole thing sounds a little jumbled but there is potential there, thanks for the post

Thanks for the nice comment man, see I've never had a band to really hold me down but I've been trying to work on my timing, even when I played piano and saxophone I always had a problem with staying on time and putting stuff together, I tend to rush stuff and you can really hear it when i combine the piano and guitar, I just go off on my own little timing and it sounds really jumbled and haphazardly put together.

Very nice. When I was 17 years my sound and playing really sucked.

I think your piano background can be of great importance when trying different rhythms and chordwork on a guitar!

Keep on playing and recording. I like to hear more!!

that's cool buddy !

your timing isn't too bad. . do you use a metronome much ?

it may feel really weird at first , and it may seem weird recording with it especially hearing that *click click* on your recordings but gradually it trains you to instinctively be in time ,

the other way that helped me a great deal was just learning simple songs and solos from songs and playing along with the original cd .. that helped me heaps and it's alot more fun than sittin in front of a metronome all day !

nice work work though ! . .what kind of gear are you using ?

Re: Cut Short (my first piano/guitar peice)

Wow thanks guys, I have practiced with a Metronome before (Paganini's 5th caprice mostly, got that up pretty fast) But not really soloing.

The gear I was using at the time was just a stock Epiphone Les Paul and a Digitech RP200 and a practice amp I think. Anyway since then I've gotten a 1987x RI and a 1960a cab with a Weber MASS and a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom put in my bridge (WOW what a difference it made!) and occasionally a my BOSS DS-1. But I'm not some spoiled kid, I worked 6 days a week last summer without missing a day for enough money to get all that. I just started back to work this summer and I think I want to get a few more little boss effects like a flanger, some reverb, a graphic eq who knows. I know I need to tame the treble on the Plexi RI.

Anyway I will try record a newer song than that since It is almost a year old. I've gotten into alot of Yngwie, Lynch, Moore, MacAlpine, and Becker since that recording so my playing style have evolved since then. But thanks again for the nice comments. When I first started playing some guy said some stuff about how I sucked to alot of my friends and it made me pretty insecure (it also made me practice my ass off) and I've been kind of insecure about it ever since. I'm getting better about it though, thanks again for the nice comments.

Hey, there's some good stuff in here. I really like the piano in the background and your guitar licks are really subtle.

Very listenable, and your timing isn't that off...

Post more of this, it's great !
