Death Metal Song - opinions please

I recorded this for a band called Fear of The Fall. I would appreciate any feedback/thoughts on the mix or the overall listenability of the recording.

Thanks!

It's very in your face. The vocals could do with some 'verb tho I understand with this particular style of music you'd want to keep it as real as possible. The clean guitars and drum fill that comes in don't work for me...different timings. Distorted guitars sound powerful but 'dry'. Liked the 'Petrucci' like call and answer thing at 3:28 with the radio edit on the 2nd guitar...cool.

I'm sure this type of stuff is difficult to put together due to all the agression in the voice (trying to capture it). Good luck to ya.

I think the whole thing is a bit rough. Could need a bit of polishing to get it a bit tighter and a better sound.
The clean part didnt work for me neither. Especially with the drum fill, like wahwah mentioned.

I may sound a bit overly critical here, but I'm just trying to be constructive, since you asked for it.
I don't think it's bad at all, but there is some room for improvement (always is, I guess).

Keep up the good work

Could you clarify a little? I am thinking you are refering to the way the guys are actually playing - I hear the drummer get off time a little bit here and there and a few other playing issues. But they are high school kids, so I think that this is as good as they can play it at this point...

If you mean the recording is rough, that is something I CAN fix, and would appreciate any more specific ideas you could offer.

wahwah: I will try a little 'verb on the vocals, do you think the guitars need some too?

Thanks!

I think the guitars could use just a tad more gain on the distortion, maybe even a touch of delay. I like the rythmn going on here though I think with some touched up tone it would really kick. I liked the clean parts...maybe clean the picking up just a tad, add some chorus on there...maybe some flanger would sound cool. Is there a way to have the vox turned up a bit??

I think it sounded pretty good myself and with some small tweaks you could get it just right. (sorry I couldn't really hear the drums that well either)

Nice post man

i like the guitar tone, i think it could work well with slightly better mixing and a much louder drum kit with a better sounding kick... the singer sounds like he was recorded in a garage, and sounds like he's whispering really loud, his voice is really airy(not sure thats the word i'm looking for) it sounds like he's not really using his gut as much, he's doing it all in the throat... the clean tone is a little bit odd sounding, did you use your neck pickup for that or the bridge? the singing on the clean part sounds really weird, it doesn't fit... and the drum beat definately doesn't fit, it sounds like a punk beat during the clean part... sorry to be so critical, i do like the guitar tone, and playing, its just the rest of the band needs work, especially the singer, he needs more gut in there, less throat, he needs to be higher in the mix too... and record in a room with better sound characteristics than whatever tin can he was in...u can check out my bands demo and be as critical as u'd like, i've already incorporated some criticism in my bands demo... its on the 2nd page, the Fallen Angels band demo thing... i also don't think i'd consider this death metal... it sounds like a cross breeding of styles, which is something i'm also not big on...

I wish I could clarify and be more helpful. But I'm not sure what it is. I guess the playing is part of it. Also the dry guitar sound.

Thanks guys, I am going to see what I can do remixing a few things, if that doesn't work I am gonna have these guys retrack some stuff.

Thanks again for the feedback!

Pretty strong stuff. I agree I don't care for the guitar tone when it's clean. It lack personnality. Sounds like an electric playing through a solid state PA.

Keep plugging away though. There's something there IMO.
