Has it really been a year?
I posted my first home produced original on 28th Nov 2004. I thought I would have run out of steam by now. Well I guess I must be as I am posting this very first song again
Anyhow - this is the Butcher, a bittersweet tale of a friend of mine. He is not long of this earth but he is the funniest guy I know and if only he didn't drink so much ... well you get the picture. But this makes it sound sad - it really isn't, it is a celebration of his humour and wit.
I am proud of this song - it was quite ambititious at the time. Until I posted this I had never thought about doing original songs. But this just seemed to evolve fairly naturally. I wanted a brass band sound on the beginning and solo section. I had no idea how to get the sound I wanted so I did it all on guitar using a horn patch. Overall the song came out quite well, all things considered.

First original? Sounds good, and all the goport elements are there (catchy melodies, nice structure, originality) but to me it has a harder edge which is cool. I like it

Thank you Belgarion. I always wanted to do more heavy, guitar orientated songs but I don't really have the voice for it and I just write what comes out at the end of the day. I am glad you liked this one though
Many thanks

I seem to remember this too, I love your songs, I always get a Beatles, 10CC feel from them in that, you have great melodies with great stories in your lyrics.

you know I just spent 20 minutes replying in person to each of you on this thread and hit the wrong button and lost it all Needless to say I am eternally grateful to all of you and welcome you input very much. You are all special friends of mine and I love the fact that someone, somewhere actually thinks I can write a tune that doesn't suck!! I will get my wife to read this, maybe she'll stop laughing then

I don't know what to say, there is just that "something" unique about your stuff. Totally unlike anyone else, makes it refreshing. I love your accent that comes through your vocals....Keep up the songwriting man.

Me, I like guitar. I like loud squeals and pinch harmonics that only dogs can hear, tapping that would redefine what Fred Astaire popularized, sweeping that would make a janitor jealous, and most importantly great melodic HOOKS (like the greatest hook writers of all time Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson). Singing is not a requirement.

Voice for it? I don't understand. Voice for singing harder rock songs? Or guitar voice for playing them?
