The Butcher (20-Nov-2004) - this tune was floating around for a while but had no words. It was supposed to be fun and sad about a friend of mine who has basically killed himself through drink but always had a massive sense of humour - making it impossible to feel sorry for him.

Wish You Well (03-Dec-2004) - This was literally written at the computer after reading about a gang member in London being shot outside his house. He basically died in his dads arms and I tried to turn it into a folky tune.

Something Worth Nothing (20-Dec-2004) - This started as an experiment - I wanted to get some ragged vocal harmonies in the style of the Stone Roses and it built from there. I think there are 8 harmony parts in this IIRC.

Come Back (24-Dec-2004) - A Rock Song. I had the riff and it needed a vehicle lol!! I didn't realise the riff was in 6/8 though ... cue 8 rewrites until I worked it all out

Here to Save (03-Jan-2005) - Tsunami inspired song. I think I won the January 2005 MP3 comp with this. This was written and recorded in an afternoon/evening.

Big Dreams (05-Feb-2005) - My twisted version of a Day In the Life albeit a Life in a song. I hate the phrase "it wrote itself" but it did. The main character is a nasty self centered individual that has little respect for anybody and ends up throwing himself off a suspension bridge
I really liked the vocals on this -I double timed the phrasing and added a counter melody ascending whilst the main one descended.

Rain Drops (11-Feb-2005) (Lyrics by Rain) - What can I say? Rain had written a beautiful poem and I tried to put it to music. To my knowledge I don't think anyone had done this until then and I was really apprehensive that she would not like it. Luckily she did (I think she even forgave my changing some of the words
)

Live Round Here (20-Feb-2005) - Songs were coming thick and fast and in an attempt to make them a bit more in depth I deliberately chose a subject I knew little about, the 1985 UK miners strike. It was a massive event at the time and Margaret Thatcher used the occasion to break the unions. It was a long strike and it never managed to achieve its aim. the miners ended up seeing all the pits slowly closed and it destroyed whole communities and families. So the story is basically about a lad watching the struggle of his family and because it is the 80's he runs to the nearest city to work on the stock market. Whilst he becomes affluent his hometown becomes a ghost town. His mother and father die and returns to the town 20 years later to see the decay.

Wave (13-Mar-2005) (Music by Ericgtr) - Eric wrote a cool tune and I attempted to make it into a song of sorts. I was listening to radiohead and Floyd at the time. Does it show? lol!! The lyrics were ad libbed and then edited to try and make a little sense of it
the closing dialogue is completely added libbed and means nothing, other than a bit of weird fun.

Dark Room (19-Mar-2005) - A song loosely influenced on One Hour Photo and Red Dragon. Only the main character is not a killer, just emotionally restricted and unable to deal with people face to face. There is building tension because he knows that darkrooms are soon to be a thing of the past so he is trying to come to terms with his weakness.

Internet Bride (24-Mar-2005) - a spiteful little tune in the style of 80's alternative bands in the UK, like the Wonderstuff. I just thought it would be a bit of fun although it is not my favourite track by any stretch of the imagination

The Two Of Us (27-Mar-2005) - Whereas this is possibly the strongest lyric I have written. I remember working really hard on this and it was the first song that took me more than a few days to write and finish. This was written in a day but it required so much work that Darkroom and internet bride got finished before it. The harmonies (not my strongest point) were very difficult. The lyrics are based on a couple who are both about to wed. they are both divorcée's and had been emotionally/mentally abused in their previous relationships. The lyric here is the mans pledge to the woman promising her a better life.

Our Wildest Dream (18-Apr-2005) - Whereas the last one was set on a sombre theme I chose to make another song about relationships on a happier note. This is literally a circle of life song and a bit more upbeat. I was really pleased with the solo in this one.

Listen (16-May-2005) - I love this song. it was inspired by a work mate. His son is a recovering heroin addict and he had a few relapses. I am happy to say he is completely straight now (well for 7 months.) but at the time he drove my friend almost to a breakdown because he deliberately came off his medication so he could go back onto the H. He would happily listen to the lectures his father gave but they never seemed to do any good. I wrote this not specifically about that but after several rewrites it became clear it was influencing the lyric and I focused on that for the final rewrites of the words. This is the first tune I used a real bass on.

Please Remember me - (08-Jun-2005) Mondy is going to be ****ed off at me but this was a song that no-one has heard. It really was just a guide vocal and a one take solo. So I have to apologise on both counts but it is a real departure for me. Mondy asked me to help write a song about something deeply personal to him. This was the result. I actually wrote about 8 different songs but this one felt the most worthy of the cause. I won't say too much because he still has to finish it and I don't want to steal any thunder here. suffice to say I was more than happy to write this and I hope wahwah gets the solo. It's a rock song and it has a deep meaning. It is about many things but most of all a celebration of life. I am sure Mondola will explain it in more detail when he posts it.

I'm Alright Without You - Lyrics/Vocals Vanman2000/Music Goport (05-Aug-2005) - I recorded a heavier than normal track that I couldn't do anything with back in Jan 05. When Bob said we should do a collab I reworked it and sent it to him. A few days later he had performed a miracle on it

She Knows (08-Aug-2005) - Happy tune, disturbing subject matter. I liked the idea that a happy tune can make the content of the lyric more bearable. This is about a girl we knew who kept cutting herself. She is over it now and happily married but at the time I remember seeing her wearing Long sleeved polar-necks and it was quite worrying. When I wrote this I did a bit of research and I tried to understand the reasons why people would do it. The song tries to explain it without judging why.

20 Year War (08-Sep-2005) - I thought it would be fun to look at marriage as war (as in war of the roses.) This song is trying to keep the same spirit of the film but plays on the military terms and juxtaposition.

Don't Do It (21-Oct-2005) - I don't remember too much about this one. It was trying to take a sympathetic look at an affair at work. Both of them are married and refuse to split up their respective families. Anyway I started it in march 2005 and finished it on my birthday. Things have really changed since I was writing a song in an evening

Please Tell Me Now (05-Dec-2005) - A love song. My wife told me I was a miserable bastard and I decided to write her a song. I thought it sounded pretty cool. She says it is bloody depressing

Love Lies To itself (06-Mar-2006) - This song has been unfinished for ever!! I love the groove and the bass. I love the sombre nature and the lyric but I just can't seem to finish it. I am really happy I finally got a half decent keyboard part recorded in this one though.
