Copy/Paste Problems In FireFox

Unlike IE, when you rt-click there is no option to paste in the message reply box. Also the copy/paste buttons don't work.

Well you can use the ctrl-c to copy/ctrl-v to paste.

There is a problem with Firefox in which the javascript doesn't allow access to the clipboard. Anyone using the copy/paste buttons in their reply will get an error saying they have to edit their config file in Mozilla.

I created a script file to fix the problem.
Download it and unzip it to get the file user.js

To use it you first have to close Firefox.
Then click Start > Run, enter %AppData% and press ok.
This will take you to the Application Data folder.
Then go to Mozilla -> Firefox -> Profiles -> *****.default folder
This is where you put the user.js
Open Firefox, sign in to G101 and the copy/paste buttons in the reply box should be working now

Well, unlike IE, firefox was originally written on, and for, a different OS and much of the work was done by people that never use Windows. In the X world (gui for most Unix systems) we don't use the copy/paste menu items a whole lot. The mouse has three buttons and the middle one usually activates what you guys would call "paste". So we just select text in one window, go to the next, and hit the middle button.

The whole clipboard idea is used by many programs now and this acts just like the clipboard in Windows (same keys and everything usually), but those of us that came before the clipboard was around are much more used to the "selection" method where just clicking the middle mouse button pastes whatever is selected. In some ways clipboard is better, in some ways selection is better; I usually prefer selection because it is faster but it is really nice to have both. I believe clipboard is more complex to code, but now that nice toolkits run rampant it is usually all done for you.

So anyway, maybe someone neglected to put the clipboard stuff into the UI menus because they never use it and just never thought of it. You could make a bug report and see if they fix it.
