Irritated....
Not trying to bitch or anything... but when I post on a thread, and end up back in the thread that I posted in, i see my post...
then when i get out of the thread, and back to the thread page, and also the forums page, my post is still considered as unseen to me, until i view it a second time... is this normal, and if so is there a way I can get that to stop?

Yep, I've noticed this also. My guess is it's a bug in the vBulletin system Maybe Eric can shed some light on this.

after you post....go to the top and click on "new posts"...there is also a way to select how you view posts in your user cp...ie) last ones first...first ones last etc...it's under "edit options" in a column on the left...scroll down to thread viewing options...
p.s. you don't use a sustainer when you post do you...????...hee hee...

I think he means...after posting in a thread, the thread still shows as unread (even though he just posted there!)

This is a pain, the cookie setting in this board is not the best. Another thing you can do is to click on the Forum Tools link (in any forum) and then choose "Mark this forum read" and it will do it for you.

This site ran on UBB Threads for the first year, their post tracking is kick ass but as far as options, board management and the modifications available it can't even come close to vbulletin.

Don't know if you know this or not, but freshmeat.net has a crapload of good and bad forum and portal packages written in every damn language you can think of. If you get sick of this one you might check out what you can find there...given the time...

I've tried a lot of boards over the years and have finally settled on vbulletin. Their dev community is large too, vbulltein.org is a great resource for modification. Since getting this board I have written a few myself, it's backend design is very clean and easier to work with than any other board I have found yet.

Yeah, it certainly is an annoying feature, but ya get used to it in the end.
Could be a reason for so many views on the threads and not as many posts ?
i.e., you come in to think there's new replies, but when you go into the thread, you see there aren't any new threads ?
I dunno, like I say, you get used to it. Just scoot around in all the other threads as well, and come back a little later for the new posts !

Only one think actually irritates me about the forum software: I can't ignore admins and moderators. IMHO I should be able to ignore anyone I don't want to hear from...at least in the public area. I can see why it might be necissary to keep lines open in case of major abuse, but if someone gets on your bad side it isn't cool to have to keep seeing their posts because they are a moderator.
Besides that it is pretty cool. If it could stream mp3's it might be better for everyone: stream an mp3 at lo-fi before deciding to download it. A lot of times I have checked out someone's music and gone off to do other things until it arrives and then forgot where I found it to give input if I had any. I think it could save bandwidth on both ends to provide streaming functions though they might not be easy to write. Plus if it started playing right away I wouldn't have my attention diverted; I don't know if anyone else is this way, but I can't wait for things...
Other little things like the OP don't really detract too much. You can get used to them.

Yeah, we can't have people ignoring mod/admin staff for obvious reasons. However, the staff here is liked by 99.9% of the users so it's never been a problem. As for streaming MP3's, as you've mentioned, we don't have lo-fi but you can still stream it if you are using Windows Media Player.

Interesting. I don't use Windows but my MP3 player (xmms) can stream. I haven't seen any option to try. Is the BB software interpreting my browser and not showing the link? Are streams in wma format instead of mp3?
I can at least do all shoutcast servers and others I don't know what they run: cronix, snakenet, abs...etc...
Or maybe I am just not seing the link but it is there... When I am looking at attachments all I see is an mp3 and it just downloads, doesn't stream.

This has proven to be the case so far, we have yet to find another media player that will stream it unfortunately.

Hmm...if I open the location by hand here at work it gets to 23k pre-buffer every time and stops; it is expecting to get to 32k. However, adjusting the pre-play fill percent doesn't fix the problem...
What server is running the stream? Maybe I can track down the misscommunication and we can fix the problem...
