Using this site on different computers...Just a heads up of different functionality than how it used to behave before eric made the recent changes.
I'm on this site all the bloody time, which means I connect from my work P.C. and my Home P.C. Usually, I'll have gone home, and left a connection to my site on my work P.C. I'll connect at home, log in, and there's no problem. I'm now logged in from my home P.C. When I return to work the next day, I'll click on the Main link and then I'll get the screen refreshed saying I'm not logged in... With the recent changes, the cookies get a little confused. If I log in from work and then go on at home and come back to my work P.C. it says that I am logged in, but when I try to post anywhere or shout in the shoutbox, I can't. The shoutbox tells me to log in first. If I then click the Main Link, it still thinks that I am logged in, however, I have the login option at the top of the screen (rather than the Logout button). If I click on the Login button, it takes me to my profile, where it lists all my settings, but I can't change anything because I am not logged in ! I don't get the option to login because it';s a little confused whether I am already logged in or not. However, if I click on Utilities -> My Cookies, and then delete my Cookies (or do this by clearing out your cookies using another program, say Norton Cleansweep), then when I hit Main again, the page is back to normal, and the Login option works properly again. If you only use the one computer, or if you properly sign out of one connection to the site before opening another on another computer, then you wouldn't have seen this. However, if you do encounter this problem, then delete your cookie (or eat it, they're reet tasty) to solve the problem... It's just that I'm a lazy git who never does anything the proper way !!! Hey, I'm a tester, it's my job to break things, right ??? Not expecting it to be fixed eric, this is just a heads up. If I start using the site properly, then I'll be fine. The site just doesn't seem as robust (idiot-proof) as it used to be !!! |

Re: Using this site on different computers...The only changes I have made are with the menu, nothing to do with cookies or anything else. What you describe happens from time to time due to being logged on at more than one PC at a time which can confuse cookies, it happens from time to time with me also.

Re: Using this site on different computers...No probs, anything to save everyone else from the usual ranting, swearing and raving that I do before rationality kicks in and I realise it isn't such a difficult problem...
