My Modded OLP MM1I recently stopped by Guitar Center and picked up a purple OLP MM1, of course only to mod the hell out of it.
I had an original Floyd Rose just laying around, so I installed it. Much thanks to el_jalapeno whom I forgot to thank for the advice. I also sanded the finish off the neck and applied tung oil for that nice feel. I'd eventually like to change the volume pot, the pickup selector switch and the input jack as well. I didn't even play the guitar when I brought it home, instead I just starting working. So when I finished I was pleasently suprised as to how it sounds. For being a cheap guitar the pickups are quite good. Of course it does have a photo top, but who cares, right? This would make a good guitar to take to gigs if I ever decide to get back into that again. I'll be posting some more gear a bit later. Eric ![]() |

Re: My Modded OLP MM1No doubt about it, she's a beaut !!!
Only thing I don't like about these guitars is the actual logo on the headstock, but I'd get over that. There's a couple in a guitar shop that I frequent. One day maybe. Don't think I'd be up to the customising required, but you gotta start somewhere hey ? |

Re: My Modded OLP MM1mondola,
Yeah, I can't stand that logo either. I was trying to think of ways to either get rid of it or cover it up. I think the only option is to strip the headstock and repaint, but by doing that I loose the quilt picture and who knows if I could actually match the color. Anyone have any ideas? Eric |

Re: My Modded OLP MM1Yeah, I had the same problem a while back when I bought a Jim Marley Music Man copy. At first, we thought it would be a piece of piss to change the logo on the headstock. The, "How hard can it be ?" statement being used a fair bit.
Then we were like : "Hold on, how the f**k are we gonna do this ?" We never figured it out. Unfortunately, the guitar was a piece of shit, so I traded it in when I bought my Ibanez. I haven't got a clue how to get rid of the logo whilst retaining the original effect on the headstock... Maybe Ej, rolsguitars, or others might have some ideas. I know we have a few Bob The Builders in the house. Can they fix it ? Yes they can !!! |

Re: My Modded OLP MM1The logo is under the finish, so you can't just rub it off. The easiest thing to do is refinish the headstock if it really bothers you, and if you are having trouble marching colors, leave it natural with a clear finish, or paint it black.
As for matching the color, here in the States you can take a piece of that film from the headstock to Home Depot or something similar, and they can match up a very close proximatin of the color. Very close becuase there are many colors in the photo, and they can only make a solid. But there are also kist to give wood grain effects or marble effects to painted finishes, so you can spend a few bucks and go that route as well. Personally, I would just leave it the fuck alone |

Re: My Modded OLP MM1Guys, with being in the guitar making bizz what I would do is first of all sand the whole headstock to try and maybe remove the logo but if the actual photo underneath is ruined no problem, rub this down to the bare wood and buy some thin quilted veneer to do the whole headstock glue in place let dry and then on some scrap veneer mix some red and blue stain till you've obtained the right shade then most importantly put some clear laquer over this as then this will be the final colour it will end up with. When happy do the headstock and obviously trim to size and cut out the tuning keys holes spray till you have the desired build assemble and VOILA!!!! Hope this helps Kammo1

But I'm sure I'd get tripped up numerous times along the way. I'd love to take the first step in messing around with guitars, but I'd just be too scared of screwing it up, knowing how delicate they can be. Cheers for the advice though !
