strat happy

These are some strats I built and are building. The black one is alder and the unfinished one is hard ash. They will both have identical parts and pu. What i wanted to do is create some sound clips to compare the alder to the hard ash. I'll try to finish the hard ash strat soon and attempt to make some sound clips to poste.

The Ed vh1 copy is swamp ash with a "air-zone" pu. -that guitar plays and sounds so damn good that i regret striping it up. Guess it will be a stay at home guitar.

Sweet That's the problem with those EVH's we make. They play excellent, but look too damn goofy to take out in public and use at a gig!

Nice guitars Strat78!

The black w/ white pickguard looks very nice... but as you say the VH#1 style, swamp ash body sounds much better.

*IMO* and from my experience... alder is great for cleaner blues w/ either humbs or single coils... but it tends to mush out and loose definition with too much gain on the amp.

I haven't heard too many hard ash-bodied guitars with humbuckers, but I think hard ash is great for a late 70s-style Strat sound using single coils- it gets a really funky, "present" tone.

Re: strat happy

yeah, the black strat w/white pickguard has lots of dignity, I really dig looking at, holding and playing the stripped strat, but out in public its like going around with your face painted like gene simmons of kiss.

Re: strat happy

oh, the neck and finger boards are AAA birdseye maple with 1 3/4 nut and a straight radious of 16'. Bought them from Warmoth for many, many Benjermans, but they bring me endless happiness. next time i would just get regular birds eye because they would have been as good but more affordable. Note: NO floid rose!!!
thanks for writing guys!
