Wolf\'s Rig
OK, here's my gear - the good, the bad, AND the ugly.
First off, this one has my purple Wolf Special, my Strat (loaded with EMG s-series), and my cheapo Sigma acoustic.
Next one has my Dean Edge1 bass ( a great deal for the money. Dean has come back with some nice stuff), and my old Charvel Model 2 that I striped and threw a Dimarzio Super Distortion into for looks. The original Jackson pickup was fine, but I wanted to get the franky look. The banan neck will be on it soon.
Next is my well-worn-in '74 Marshall MK II. Only mods I have on it as of right now is an effects loop that i rarely use.
Here's my rack. Furman power, Chandler Tube Driver * (just got rid of my Marshall 9001 preamp and got the Chandler back after getting rid of it a few years ago. Twice as good for half the money.), ART SGE Mach II (piece of shit - i only use it for reverb for the most part, although I'll throw in some chorus and delay as well), BBE 401 (fell back in love with this thing after I let it sit around for a couple of years). * thanks to Fab who replaced the tube driver for me as my xmas gift
On the floor, we have my ART midi pedal, cheap-ass Korg tuner, crybaby, MXR Flanger, MXR Phaser, and my generic preamp footswitch.
Last , and more or less least...LOL, my Yamaha keyboard. Cheap stuff, but it serves it's purpose well.

I thought something about the "blue wolfie" avatar was a little biased

Actually , that avatar is an EVH EBMM - one of which I would kill to own. Maybe someday I'll have kids and I can barter one of them into slavery for one.

Re: Wolf\'s Rig
I may be off here, but isn't the Wolfie pretty similar to the music man?
I have the axis, and its pretty good, but I think the EVH has a better tremolo, and a tone control.

Re: Wolf\'s Rig
Hey man - welcome to the board, first of all.
I've never gotten to play an EVH EBMM myself, but I've heard everybody say that they are like night and day. I'm happy with the Wolfgang of couirse, but I HAVE to get an original EVH Music Man one of these days.

Re: Wolf\'s Rig
They are different animals.
But, like all guitars, there are some that you like, and some that you hate.
When I was trying out the guitars for my Wolfie, I didn't like the Wolfgang Standard, or the other specials that were in the shop at the time. That's not to say that I don't like Standards. I played a beautiful Purple standard once, that I loved, but it just wasn't there when I had the money available.
That said, I also played an Axis, and I hated it. I have also played 2 other different Axis' in different shops, and have never liked any of them, which really puzzles me.
Now, I also played a Music Man a long way back that I loved. I then played one in Japan, and try as I might, I just didn't like it. It played awfully.
Have I helped ? I really don't know. All I'm trying to say is that the models themselves are vastly different, but also, each guitar (even if the model is the same) is vastly different (to me, anyway).
That doesn't stop me wanting an EB MM, when I find one that I like !!!

Re: Wolf\'s Rig
I get a bit confused by the models, but my research told me that the ernie ball axis-music man, was the model after Eddie's model.
It apparently has some improvements, and unless the neck is made improperly, i figure they should all feel pretty similar.
I have the purple grain, and just the feel of it is sweet.
I'm no virtuoso guitarist, but when i throw that guitar through a D.O.D grunge peddle, it feels like I'm listening to Balance.
Only thing I would change about my guitar is to go from purple to gold. It is a sweet axe though, if I can say so myself.
Took me ten years to afford this guitar, so sorry if I'm a little braggy!

Took me also a long time before I bought the Wolf.
I can relate!

Re: Wolf\'s Rig
Ah, I was lucky (in a way)...
I got made redundant and they gave me a wad of cash as redundancy money. I buggered off to the guitar shop and bought the guitar before my fiancee could persuade me that pretty house decorations were far more important...

I think there was a problem on the original Music Man's whereby the top e-string would come off the fretboard. I think this was fixed in the Axis. But there's lots of arguements about them being the same guitar, or them being totally different.
They don't feel the same to me though...

Thanks, Terry.
No, I'm actually in Lexington, KY, but I am in the LA area frequently and have an eye on moving that way as soon as possible. Just let me know the dates and I will see if our schedules collide.
