Actual Notation?

Out of curiosity...can i post actual notation here, rather then tab? If so how. My first thought would be to just write stuff out on my handy staff paper, and scan it. But i know there must be some other way.

You could type out whatever you want in a program like Powertab. The just choose to output your work to Bitmap then convert it to a JPEG in Paint or a similar program.

Then, after you host the image somewhere, you can post the entire image like this:

Or you can trim away the tablature to leave only the notation. Like this:

Hope this helps a little.

Re: Actual Notation?

Yes that helps to a certain extent. I've been using cakewalk to write midi files for years with notation. But ive never been able to print out or copy the notation to something else. I've heard of that PowerTab program, but dont have it. Is there a place i can get it for free possibly?

The program is indeed free and you can Download it HERE

If you're interested, you can also find tons of tabs at HERE

After you get everything installed and up and running, I think you'll really like the program.

Re: Actual Notation?

OK i just made a few things. My only question is, how do i output it to a bitmap? It lets me save it as powertab files. And also once i do that, how do i just post it in a post like this.

Ok, to output the tab as a bitmap, first glance across the top to the powertab program.

You'll see it says "File," "Edit," "View" ect . . . -- Follow those headings over until you find the one called "SECTION" - click that and look at the very bottom of the options. - You'll see the "OUTPUT AS BITMAP" one. - highlight that then select "TO FILE..." that'll allow you to pick whatever folder you want to save your work in.

After you do that, open your saved bitmap file in PAINT or a similar program and resave it as a JPEG.

Once you've done that, you have to host the image somewhere before it can be posted on a message board. Try Ripway.com - it's free and easy to use. After you set up an account and upload your image, it'll show you a URL that you can use to post your notations on the board.
