Anyone Seen Or Got Dan Huff 'studio Work And Guitar Techniques'?
A mate of mine lent me a couple of videos months ago that I've just got round to watching today. Both are Japanese origin and the first called 'Dan Huff - Studio work and guitar technique' is amazing! I couldn't call it a Guitar Instruction tape cos he doesn't really go into his scales etc. It's more about how to add stuff when overdubbing and what to do with effects etc. It came out in 1993 and features Giant doing different tracks and styles in a studio in Nashville. It was such a good watch, I'm trying to see if I can get it copied before I send it back (then I could share it if it's as a Windows media file or whatever.
The other is Doug Aldrich instructional and again, it's amazing!
Anyone else seen these?

Wow, that sounds awesome, I'd love to see that. I had that GIANT album back in the early 90's. I played it so much. He's a killer guitarist and pretty good singer too. One of the first solo's I learnt was the solo from Here I Go Again by Whitesnake, people always credit John Sykes for that when it was Dan Huff on the album....(and before anybody says, It was'nt Adrian Vandenburg either) He did a verion for the video and a remix....

Never knew that....he IS a killer guitarist but I think, more than that, I can see why he's now a top dollar producer in Nashville. He started doing session work when he was 16 apparently and has spent the best part of 20 odd years doing whatever came his way. It means he can pretty much put his hand ot anything...I know he got the guitar job with a string of country artists (with Mutt Lange singing his praises) so it looks like he took it to the next level and became the Producer. Awesome MUSIC man let alone guitarist.
If I can get anybody to copy these, I'll be happy to send out.

Count me in for a copy Chris - LOVE Dan Huff's work! I'd kill for his tone and style on "Last Of The Innocents".
P.S. think you came up a bit short on the new title under your name bud - could'a gone for something a bit more obscure like "gingangooligooligooliwatcha!"
- OK - our US brethren are now going like
(weren't you ever a cub scout?)

Actually John Sykes recorded all the original solos to the "Whitesnake" 1987 album. But when he left Whitesnake, he reportedly stole all of the tapes with his solos. Adrian Vandenburg re-recorded the solo to Here I Go Again, and it was kept on the final cut of the album; all the other guitar tracks for all the other songs and the rhythm guitars on Here I Go Again are John Sykes. In 1988, Coverdale re-recorded yet another version known as the "radio remix" with Dann Huff on guitars. This version has less keyboards, and the guitars aren't as heavy. It was not played on the radio in the U.S., but it is on the Whitesnake Greatest Hits album.
The original solo recorded by John Sykes was never released.

Sadly Coverdale and Sykes have had an unhealthy loathing for each other since the split. The North East UK guys will know of Graham Russell who does a solo guitar thing with backing tracks on the circuit. I remember there was a bit of a holaballoo about him being asked to join Whitesnake after Steve Vai (left (well, he turned his recording studio light off). Graham said it happened and has a letter...Coverdale said it didn't. I've never found out the truth but it's made me feel Cov is a business man first and a singer second these days.

The radio mix of "Here I Go Again" doesn't have Bill Cuomo's "DX7 Heaven" intro, but still has more synths throughout the song than the Whitesnake '87 version... and with a nice yet brief solo by Dan. The remixed song was on KIIS FM's rotation here in L.A. too; so I think a lot of people here (who didn't see the album cut's video on MTV) remember that remix as being the main version of the song.

Chris, Haven't seen the Dan Huff vid though i'd obviously LOVE too .
I have the Doug Aldridge one and a ton of others though and it's very good. One of my faves on a a "basic" level is one Al Pitrelli did, can't remember what it's called. Most of these came out in Jap only on the "Young Guitar" moniker i think.

A mate of mine is copying them for me this weekend and then he's hoping to get them onto a cd-rom so, if it transpires, I'll get some copies out or load up on a download site may be easier. I'll keep you posted.
CC, the Doug one is killer! STILL can't get over how he hardly uses his little finger!

Dann Huff is an awesome guitarist AND singer - very rare these days.
You can also thank Dan for Dave Mustaine's and Marty Friedman's crisp guitar sounds in all their Megadeth albums from the 1990's.
Dann was involved in a TON of recording projects for all different genres (country to heavy metal). Check out this unofficial website for a list:

I used to have a Peavey Bravo 112 Tube amp that was VERY close to Dann's tone on Last of the Runaway's. I just might go out and buy another one after reading this thread.
