When playing a lesson try to use different vibratos on different notes!
(make sure you use different fingers for vibrato).
Try using fast and slow vibratos on different note's
DO NOT LIMIT VIBRATO TO JUST ONE FINGER!
Each finger should have a fast or a slow vibrato.
Left and Right hand must work as one! they are a team.

20'th Century Player

How Often Should You Play Daily

The Myth
Standard 2 HRS a Day

2 Hrs -- 30 years pro
4 Hrs -- 15 years pro
6 hrs -- 7 years pro
8 hrs -- 4 years pro (not fun)
10 hrs -- 2 years pro (not fun, very upset stomach,)
12 hrs -- 1 year pro (not fun ,expect to throw up)

This is the first time you can see what the myth is doing for the guitar player.
If you work,play 2 times a day more often. 4 hrs a day split in 2 shifts will do wonders.

you keep mentioning ostinato...... That is not a playing technique, it is a composition technique..... And what data base did you get your percentages from? Just curious.....

Ostinato is a repetitive phrase used in classical music mainly. I think that the excercises that are there are more like what are known as pedal points. Also, the percentages don't add up and think they were a little bit made up. The licks in the excercises are good but there is no need for all that made-up theory.

I understand that , i just was curious as to why you'd have to practice pedal points or even real ostinatos 80% of the time

not really a bash as such just curious over here joey !

They are called ostinato's but you guys call them pedal points..I just learned that from another board..

I just want you too see you need to work on other things other than scales or basic sweep..

if you work on scales to long you will cut into your vibrato skill...and we would not want to do that...

Well there are players in the 20th century who played fast all day long,and when it was time to write music...GET THIS...

They did the same freaking thing in their songs...so I agree with you a bit scales are a playing technique and not a composition technique...

If they were a composition technique,than I would have to say it very basic..

The problem is it's not just a pedal tone. And playing fast has been around for AGES, it's as much of a dramatic technique as playing slow. Paganini is a good example.

Mozart used to travel the lands, and he would have two pianos set up in the town square, one for him, and one for whomever wanted to challenge him in a playoff so to speak, the most famous of which was the duel against Muzio Clementi (which Mozart lost) But Mozart wrote some incredible music. And it was both fast, and slow, but always compelling. A lot of times, speed is emotion, and causes the desired effect on the listener.

Try doing aerobics to a Carpenters tune..... Ain't gonna happen


And yes, scales ARE the most basic of composition techniques.... look at "Flight of the Bumble Bee", all scales, all speed, and been around for generations. There are a lot of musical terms that have been lost over the years..... For instance "forte" or "pianissimo" (loud, and soft) but the matter at hand is to correctly define those terms as to not cause confusion for a young player, and budding musician.

The "21st" century player as you defined might as well be Paganini in this case. And he died in 1840.... well before the 21st century. And to be truthful, the the electric guitar is a new instrument relative to how long a violin has been around.

(in the 20's I believe. Check Gibson guitars... I think it was a developer there that came up with the technology for the electric pickup)

So to be less than 100 years old means that the boundaries have not been truly explored yet, and there is still much to accomplish on the instrument, both from a technological, and a playing standpoint.

I'm not here to bash anybody, I just would like to see terms, and facts used correctly especially when there are less informed people reading them.

On to another matter,

Joey, you say "exotic arps" Please give me an instance, or a chord change that you would use Arpeggio 4 over. I can't find the root of it. It looks like stacked major nines (well depending on the root) because all I see if you use the 10th fret to start is an octaved root 5th 9th and 6th pattern. So would it be safe to assume this is a D 6/9 arp? Or is it an A9 arp with D bass? (there are no thirds in it to say if it's a min9 or add9)

It's not truly stacked fifths either, because the B to E change on the fourth and fifth strings is a 4th interval.

Just want to see it applied in a musical situation. If it's an arp, it needs a chord name with it as well.

Sure..I am new to music and writing..But teaching I started in my first month

All I can say is if you like what I am doing just read the tab..It's that easy..

If you do not..you still have to read the tab cause it's your goal to be the best you can be.. ..

As for chords I no nothing of chords all my music is from my soul ,breaking it down would be a waste of time..

What you have to do is try many and all things ,till it sounds right , than spend a few more days on it till it rocks..than hit the big red button..lol

Thats how I write, you might get into leroy but not me...

Ok, if you don't know what you are doing, as you say here, then how can you teach? I'm not here to flame you, I just want to know how you can teach something you can't explain.

And btw, the tab is pointless, and nothing more than a finger excersize without an instance of application. You need to know how to use the arpeggio, or chord in a given situation to actually make it a lesson. Usually when you see a tab or a scale that has a purpose, you will see the given chords they are played over in a sequence above the tab. I see you constantly wondering why you get beat up in forums and on sites..... Maybe if you took the time to study what you were telling the world you know, it may ease that situation.....

And what's this cryptic bit about Leroy?
