Mean Street Intro Part 1
I finally kicked it's butt. Here's part one. The first measure does not exist on the album, however, it is played by Eddie during his live solos. IMHO, he plays it this way to obscure the down beat. If you play it with a misplaced downbeat, you'll turn into Wonder Bread.
Tab notes:
s is a percussive mute(slap)
Eddie plays the 12th fret taps with his thumb. It's much easier to play it using the first and middle fingers. But that's entirely up to you.
Your brain will have motor problems with this at first. Learn it slow and work your way up to speed.
I will try to tab out the rest as time permits.
Enjoy!
Ed

Re: Mean Street Intro Part 1
I'm awake now and re-read your original post Crumb. I have the "Live Without a Net" video and Eddie clearly uses his thumb and forefinger (pointer) to tap the 12th fret. That's how I've been doing it. What I can't seem to get is the pattern so I'm happily going to check out your tab.
One thing I noticed from the video is that his left hand neck slap happens in bursts. In other words, he slaps like 4 times or so and then pauses, then 4 slaps or so and pauses. I noticed that when I was focusing on each individual hand. When the left hand pauses, the right thumb and pointer are dancing.
Dave
PS
Will you have an mp3 of your tab. It helps to hear.
Thanks for the insight you've given on this and the time you've spent.

Re: Mean Street Intro Part 1
Yip, he does it with his index finger and thumb. The video I have is really hard to tell without knowing to look. No wonder why it was so tough to play it that way :-)
I don't have an mp3 of myself playing it since I normally practice without an amp and I have no amplifier at my house. Lately, I've been thinking about starting to practice with an amp. When I do, I'll post it.
Have fun!
