i learned playing the guitar myself..but i dont have any idea about how to consturct a chord or which scale i m playin..
i just trust on my ears...but i think i used all my creativity in almost 4 years..so i guess it is time to learn some theory to have more ideas...

I don't know much about theory vocabulary, but I do know how to play, where as on the other hand I know people that can spout theory left and right but can't play worth shit. They can show you a diminshed 15th G minor or whatever, but if you play that same chord for them they have no clue what it is. They start believing you can change to any scale in the middle of a key and they totally blow balls in their solos. There's a fine line between practicallity and practice, and some guys really need the practice!

These are the same guys that have rusty strings on their guitars, and each string is slightly out of tune, yet they act like they got it going on becuase they can tell you the name of that funky chord you just found. I'll take playing it as more important than saying it any day of the week. Another easy spot is that they can play the opening riff of Unchained, but no other song even remotely all the way through.

Having said all that, a good understanding or foundation will lead to successfull playing. I look forward to this old dog learning some new tricks

thanks for the comments..
