When I started learning Zeppelin and Van Halen years ago I used a 2 speed tape recorder to slow parts down to half speed. Now there are programs that do that and stay in pitch. (one is from this site, the slow down MP3 program)
It takes a lot of patience at first, but once you develop your ear and notice the patterns it gets much easier. This was a better avenue for me than tab but everyone is different. You can try the shred videos but you may get frustrated. It all depends on your commitment. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your advice. I'm extremely determined despite my lack of natural talent. I will get this right because i want to be a musician.. Its my dream.

I will try the method you suggested. Thanks so much.

Dan.

IMO there is nothing to do with talent in guitar at least for me (unless you are born with perfect pitch). All that matters is how much time you are willing to put into your practice sessions. Just keep working at it, remain patient and it will come in time. Practice with a metronome if you have one and if you dont then just tap your foot at a slow pace and use that as your metronome. Trust me, if I had always practiced with one id be 3x better than i am now and ive been playing for a year and a half.

Ive got natural rhythm and was born with natual musical ability to match pitches so that they are in key and what not. I just.. Don't have much skill on a guitar. But then again after 11 months I've heard I'm not supposed to.

Thanks for your encouragement and advice.

Definitely check there^ good call graham.

Troy Stetina, and his Mechanics of Speed Picking book, and vid is essential. Daryl Gabel has some cool stuff, and also, there are a lot of songs tabbed at Powertab, that have speed passages that you can learn.

My advice? Learn to walk, before you run. Take your time learning fundamental scales, and patterns, and be able to play them competently before you just jump into the high speed stuff.

I guess i am getting too far ahead of myself.. And guitar isn't an overnight thing. I just want to be too good too fast.

I'll take my time and learn all the scales and what not.

suggestion -

i may not have several posts, but having played for a few years, i suggest getting into major scales. learning a major scale across the neck provides ample room for a guitarist to improvise (also relative minors can be found by using the sixth as the root). get into pentatonics after that (if they haven't already caught up to you), i'm still trying to get out of the boxed-in madness. a good site to visit is http://www.theshredzone.com; they have a ton of lessons that will help. and another thing...

try to stay away from michael angelo for now. mista king's advice is great... stay away from the fast stuff until you got the slow stuff nice and smooth.
