Yo Dudes, I was playing the Gilbert Jam (
http://www.guitars101.com/forums/http://www.guitars101.com/forums/f96/paul-gilbert-jam-complete-elecjoy-and-slob-28011.html ) to a friend of mine and he asked what the hell the lick was at the end of my solo. I thought it would make a cool lesson thing as the hammer\tap technique is pretty hip.
It's essentially melodic minor, and is played virtually all legato, i.e. without any picking. In fact, the only picking is the sweep at the start of the lick, and the first G on the high E string - the rest is hammers, pulls, slides and taps.
The taps are executed by using two fingers on the right hand, ideally the 2nd and 3rd finger... this is a rippin technique to get under your belt.
I've written this out in the attached Powertab zip as 32nd notes - saves me having to work out the specific rhythms.
Hope you enjoy, I've included an mp3 of me playing this lick (slow then quite fast) without the backing, so you can hear what's going on more clearly, and then with the backing.
Have fun,
Cheers!
