Hit the A flat (4th fret on the low E string) and tune your open A to it, then tune it all from your open A string

Ypu mean just to do like you do with the 5th fret when tuning like that, but using the 4th fret (and the 3rd on the G)?

Exactly, and once you have the open A tuned to it just tune all the other stings to the A string and you are set.
