the right scale?

Hi.

I've got to play a solo over an Am / C chord progression. I'd like to play the same scale for both chords, if possible...

What's the best scale to play in?

The Shredder89 is an unknown quantity at this point
A minor pentatonic is always a good place to start, but try not to get too locked into the blues box.

Am pentatonic

Thanks!

I've been playing the solo in Am pentatonic allready, but I was wondering if this was theoretically correct...

A is the relative minor of C.

its important to know the diffrence between Am and C

A C E and C E G

no matter what scale you play it will have diffrent results with each chord.

if your progression is C to Am and your just playin Am pentatonic it reminds me of some gothic stuff.

if your playin the same Am over the Am to C progression it sounds like a bridge or the last movement in a peice.

C over C to Am
and
C over Am to C are pretty popular and can be used just about anywhere.

maximum effect its to use it in a progression of 3 or 4 chords.

try mixing the dominant notes in the Am pentatonic with lets say the dominant notes in Dmin over a Dmin chord thrown in. Am going up, Dmin coming down.

play it in triplets even, you can play those two three note chords.
