Whammy Bar Exercise

Ok ... this will help out your control over the whammy bar ..and you need to use your ear a fair bit !

first of .. play open E on the top string .. listen to the note and how it sounds now play this :

<font class="small">Code:</font><hr /><pre>E||--1----2----3----4----||
B||----------------------||
G||----------------------||
D||----------------------||
A||----------------------||
E||----------------------||</pre><hr />

and with each note you play push the whammy bar down more and more to get the original open E note .. sounds easy .. but trust me it's not easy to get it in tune ! once you get the first note slide up one fret and depress the whammy further ti get the original E note ... have fun ! i would post a soundclip but i haven't done it for so long it'll be really bad !

Re: Whammy Bar Exercise

Thanks, Stiglar

This is a good thing to get that ear-and-hand coordination going.

I often use the wang bar in solos, where I'll depress it to make let's say a B on the D string at the 12th fret, then release it gradually to climb back up to D and move on with a lick.

Steve Vai does this quite a bit in For The Love Of God.

Re: Whammy Bar Exercise

nice! doing that has a good effect ! .. i used to just push it down a tiny bit to go down a semi tone or tone .. but i found my tuning was horrible when it came to do it under pressure during a solo .. so this exercise helped me out alot ! even though i still can't do it hehe

Re: Whammy Bar Exercise

I'm very lucky with the Wolfgang, as it rarely goes out of tune when I do that. I can count on it getting back to the right pitch.
