A friend of mine

If you think you can do this I dare you to try. The board in the first video is 1" ply. In the second, at the end, those are 3 patio blocks with the center one turned on its side. An amazing dude really.

I fail to see why anyone would WANT to do that. They do have power saws these days. Is there really mmuch call for that sort of thing in todays job market?

No, not much call in the job market unless your job is martial arts. He did do a few exhibitions in his younger years but I don't think it made him any money. The point of what he is doing is imagine if he was hitting you like that...ouch!

I have seen him put a finger through the side of a plastic pop bottle. That might not seem that impressive but imagine how strong your stomach muscles and skin are compared to a pop bottle. Before I met him I in no way believed the ledgends of masters that could stab you with their hands or crush your skull with a punch...now I wonder if there could be some truth to them. Even at 80 years old this man is VERY dangerous to fuck with

Here is an article where he explains to another instructor why breaking is important. I myself don't really train for it too much because, well it hurts I can break, nothing like him of course, but usually don't. At any rate, it is a skill that's purpose is more in the training and focus than in the skill itself. The level of self knowledge needed to do things like that is way above normal.

So, it's more an excersize in concentration and focus, and it is the excersize that is important not the end result. Is that right?

Well, the end result of the exercize is better understanding, concentration, and focus so it is important. Breaking a 1" thick piece of plywood is just a phenominal demonstration of exceptional understanding, concentration, and focus.

Yeah, me neither. I'll do boards and 1 or two patio blocks, but the stuff some of these guys do I just won't. Breaking things by itself hasn't hurt my hands very much, but it has made problems I already had worse. Like I have some nerve problem in my hand, some sort of RSI, and at my test I had to break and now it is really hurting.

Last week I broke a guitar string. It was easier than this looks though. It's too bad that the video quality was not more clear. This is crazy stuff though. I definitely could not do this.

Not many people can. They are few and far between.

I also lament the video quality. I wish I could get ahold of the original. Maybe some day I can. The people that made that video are in the extended family but are not people I regularly get to talk with. It is also a rather old video. A few years ago I saw what he said was going to be the last time he did anything like that and this was when he put his finger into the pop bottle.

Well EJ you must not have seen Kill Bill 2. Uma saves her life with this skill when she escapes after being buried alive in a coffin. You better get practicing in case you need to do the same someday.

Yeah, you never know when you will be burried alive by a man living in a trailer who you tried to kill because he played a part in murdering your husband and helped his massocistic asshole brother named Bill shoot you in the head. So you better become a master of that one inch punch or you are totally fucked when that happens.

Nah, it isn't anything like that really. I don't expect everyone to understand it but I have a lot of respect for this guy. I thought maybe others here might appreciate seing some of what he can do...

I shit you not, for that very reason I want to be cremated. Of course my religion damns me to hell if I am cremated, so I am free to download all the porn my hard drive can hold
