A missing person sleeping in our backyard!

Yesterday morning I woke up at 4:30 am as I always do, I went to open all the windows because its been hot here in seattle for the past week. When I was opening back window I saw something move in the kids tent. We dont let the kids sleep outside in it because our neiborhood is bad. I woke my wife and asked if she let one of the kids sleep in the tent, she said no. I got dressed and went out there and said "hey, are you lost" he didnt respond. I said it again, still no answer. I said did you get drunk last night and loose your way? No answer from the man, and he hasent even looked at me. He rolled over but I still couldnt get a good look at his face. Then I said are you homeless? No resopnce. I said sit up and look at me. At this time I got a strange feeling that somthing wasnt right with him. I said, do want this tent, you can keep it. He sat up and started rubbing his face. I said look at me, he did, then I said whats your name? He turned and laid down in the other direction. I went in the house asked my wife to close all the windows and lock up I walked down the block to the fire station and asked for help, they said call the police. I went back in my house and the police arrived quickley. The man in the tent had been missing from the mariners ball game a day earlier! He had not taken his medication for a couple of days. He is now safe at his home! OOHHH I live far from the Mariners stadium. Last month the police chased a man through my yard, a few month before we called the police becase a huge man was standing in our driveway at nite with a big club, standing in front of the car blocking us from parking, Holding the sick in one hand and slapping it into the palm of his other. Do ya think we should move? LOL!

Either move or setup a tall chain link fence to keep out the riff raff!

If you have kids, it wouldn't harm to think of moving...but where to? I want to go to New Zealand but my wife isn't interested. It's the only place I can think of that doesn't have a global threat from a superpower. Is there an area outside of Seattle that would be safer but wouldn't front you with a huge mortgage hike? If there is, go there. Be safe nandk.

Geesh, if you live in Seattle I'd figure you'd be used to strange people scrounging through your backyard. Heh, I loved living there but the walking tax rate is insanely high. Walk past any 5 blocks in Seattle and you'll be instantly approcahed by at least 3 homeless people asking you for change.

There are a whole lot of very reasonably priced pieces of property in Lewis County, but that is a pretty long drive from Seattle. People do it, but you would probably want to find work closer to home if you did move.

I hear the fishing is awesome in New Zealand though...

I think call the cops might be the first thing I had done. Then I would walk out with a shotgun to see what it was. Of course I live where it takes the cops 20 minutes to make it to a robbery across the street and my worst worry is that it would be some sort of animal...the kind that are not scared enough of humans to stay out of the tent.

We moved into the best neighborhood we could when I lived in Vancouver, WA. My wife's big concern is child molesters. After we had lived there a couple of years, the paper published a map with all known sex offenders, and I could not believe how we were surrounded. The best thing you can do is never take your eyes of your kids, and teach them well from an early age. Oh, and make sure you've got a bigger stick than the opposition.
