Announcement - We are moving to a new board

If all goes well we will soon be moving over to a new bulletin board system. Any of you who are familiar with our other site http://www.jamtothis.com have seen what the new board is like. The new board is vbulletin and is loaded with features that we don't have here, a lot of them are management but there is also more for the user as well.

This transition could take place anywhere from today through the weekend. When the import of data from this board over to the new one starts all the forums here will be closed. This will make sure we don't have new posts here that aren't copied over to the new board.

When we close down here I will put up a temporary forum we can use for chatting so we won't be totally closed out during the changeover. Thanks for understanding, this site will be much better off and have many more features with the new board.

I am sure there will be some complaints (there always are [img]images/smilies/icon_wink.gif[/img]) but we will be better off overall. Also, you guys are free to post as you normally do, anything posted from now until I close this board will be carried over.

wow!! good luck with it. myself, i prefer this style board over the vbulletin.. prolly cuz i have been using it for alot of yrs...the other board seems like a step back though.. just an opinion...but i am not familiar with all the other options that vbulletin may/may not have.... so you can import from ubb to vbulletin i take it?

We can with the help of a developer [img]images/smilies/icon_wink.gif[/img] As far as the differences go, I have had to pay for almost every mod that offers us the functionality we have here i.e. different file upload sizes in different forums, subforums, several attachment mods and may others. Almost all of these features are stock in VB.

One of my main problems with the way this board is it's handling of attachments. The way it stands there is no real security to them, they can be downloaded several ways even without having access to the forum they are in. VB's way is very secure and if we don't want them to have access, they won't get to the file.

One thing that we'll miss on the new board is the post tracking, that's where it shows how many new posts are on the front page. After a while you get used to it though.
