Anyone speak Norwegian?

Hi all,

I'm doing some family history research and some of the stuff I have is in Norwegian, which I don't speak. I'm looking for someone who can help me translate a few paragraphs of text to English. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Sorry man, couldn't help laughing at that one... I'm pretty sure Rid is danish,
at least he sent me a PM in danish, and he lives in Denmark!

For all of you that aren't laughing yet, the fun thing is there is an ongoing joke between danes that people overseas, in the US, tend to confuse Denmark with the capitol of Sweden or Norway 'cause it's such a small country!

-Btw, I'm danish, NOT swedish or Norwegian!!

i know a bit of norwegian, " my hovercraft is full of eels ", means i want to buy some cigarettes . or you could use , "i will not buy this record it is scratched" i these both have the same meaning but are totally different

'
'Hjælper Forældrene' = 'helping the parents'

'Hos Forældren' = 'with the parent'

'Huusmand med Jord og Skomager' = 'Cotter with land and shoemaker'
...are you shure it's 'skomager' and not 'skog'? 'Husmand' means (or used to mean) a 'cotter' or a 'crofter', which I guess was someone who owned a big farm and some land, possibly a forrest, and hired people to work for him.
'Jord' means 'land'. 'Skog' means 'forrest'. 'Skomager' means 'shoemaker'.

Tilreisende = visitor

I've never heard the word 'Logerende'.
But if you take away an 'e', you get 'logrende', which means 'Wagging one's tail'.

Roy.

"logerende" is a seldom used norwegian word nowadays... It means staying as a guest. E.g. if a guy is "logerende" he might be working or paying for a bed, or just staying as a regular guest.
