Does your city/town shut down at night?
I have lived in several larger cities in the past and noticed that these places shut down at night for fear of crime basically- have to drive all across city just to find an open store to buy some milk for instance. I always liked my hometown/city because it wasn't like that. I notice it is becoming more and more like this as each year passes and the population grows. I can't say I like it much. I guess the days when you could leave your doors open at night has truly passed....sad!
I suppose I will just have to adjust.
I guess this is more of a comment than a question yet feel free to post your thoughts.

Downtown Toronto is pretty lively at all hours.
It doesn't become a ghost town after dark at all.

I hear this.
I feel very fortunate to live in a remote, mountainous area in a canyon, where there are no sidewalks or street lights. Traffic is only local and there are no stores or bars to attract people at night.
This allows us to live a bit like in the old days. I spend a lot of time outdoors in the evening. This lifestyle is not for everyone, but I hope I can keep it this way, away from too much civilisation.

see thats the thing though when people realize how nice a place is they will all move there then it isn't nice anymore...over population is coming to a town near you it's just a matter of time...it's happening here and once it has started it gets worse quick. There are certain segments of the population around here it's as if they dropped a seed pod...then a year or less later...WOW!
and it keeps getting worse...
BUMMER!

You should try living in France...THIS COUNTRY SHUTS DOWN AT NIGHT!
Outside of Paris, Nowhere here is open past 6pm, even gas stations And major stores and banks still close for 2 hours at lunchtimes . But of course it's nothing to do with crime....
...it's just the LAZY FRENCH!

My city has a curfew for those under 18 and the only area that shuts down for the most part would be the immediate downtown business area. I haven't seen any sidewalks rolled up after 10:00 pm as of yet.
