Fun With Photoshop
Well, I reckon that, since I've been assigned (as a newly deemed MOD) this here Lounge , I probably ought to start a thread or two of possible interest. This is a bit of a spin-off to a thread started a ways back by fellow community member and artistic talent (and Priest aficianado), RiffAddict. This thread is a call to any community members who have had some fun with the powerful, yet intuitive program, Photoshop (or similar... StingX, I know you have your favorite Photoshop equivalent). Attached is my current desktop pattern. I have also attached the original DijCam photo that I started with. Our cat, Pearl, was laying lazily on the floor last Saturday night with her feet and rear side against a half-wall on our upper floor. If you bent over the wall (staring straight down), it kind of looked like she was dancing atop a wall. So that's what i tried to recreate. The semi-transparent black strip along the left side was incorporated to help organize desktop files along the left side of my monitor.
If you have a fun graphics type project that you've worked on, feel free to post it in this thread. I'm interested to see what kind of artistic talents are interwoven in the G101 community.

Wow, I did not get this until I opened my Yahoo! email account and saw my email notification that this was posted, in which it appeared correctly (the image above was supposed to appear as the image below (a screen capture of my email).
Pretty damn clever!

For those that can't afford Photoshop for whatever reason might find a program called Gimp useful. Diehard photoshop users say it isn't as good (some say it doesn't even come close), but it is certainly better than paint anyway and has a wide array of tools and features. It is a Linux born program, but has been ported to Windows and works pretty good on it...I've used it a lot on both platforms. You can find links to the "win32" version at http://www.gimp.org
Of course it will behave slightly different than what you are used to with other windows programs. I tend to think it would be better if it used more of an MDI setup like Photoshop does than the multiple window thing it does but you can get used to it.
Anyway, know you were kidding...but thought maybe those that don't already know about Gimp and can't afford Photoshop might be interested.
On a different note...I am no graphic artist, but I have a great idea for an album cover I would like to eventually use. The album would be called "Monkey Food" and it would have a picture of a guy doing a line of crank with an evil monkey standing on his shoulders, having ripped open the top of his head and eating his brain. If anyone is interested in making something like that it would be neat...I can't pay though so it would just be for fun and the little recognition my works would get and I don't even have any yet I'm sure it would be a difficult and time consuming task though so probably little interest will be in doing it for free

I also have in addition to my full Photoshop 6 program, the "Photoshop Elements" version which is only $100. Its hasn't got some of the more powerful aspects of the full program but it actually can still do alot! I use it all the time if I don't need to use channels, actions or advanced filters. Its a perfect program for beginner PS enthusiasts.

Great recomendations guys. I'm not familiar with GIMP Noah, so I can't really comment on that particular program, but my brother always sings high praises of Photoshop Elements (says the same things you said about it, Riff).
