Grrrr....

I recently bought a jeep 4x4 and the valve cover was cracked. So I bought a new one from the internet (jeep4x4center.com). Right below was a "Gasket, valve cover" that I also needed so I bought. I got a valve cover and a tube of ****ing silicon!!

Yes, silicon can be used as a gasket if you have no other choice. It isn't the greatest though and certainly doesn't qualify as a valve cover gasket. There were clues that, had I been observant enough, would have warned me that I wasn't ordering what I thought (including the reciept not saying valve cover gasket anywhere on it) but boy is it irritating to be tricked like that. After all the shipping fiascos with my last order I was understanding and decided to try again...but this is just dishonest. Won't be using these guys anymore...

Nah, just went to the part store and bought one.

It's the dishonesty of selling silicon as a valve cover gasket that irks me.

The part number is RTV Silicon...so in a very technical sense I was informed. I didn't pay much attention to the part number and I wouldn't have figured that meant a tube of silicon anyway but...if I was more observant and knew more about the makeup of valve cover gaskets I might have known what I was getting. Still seems dishonest to me but they are _technically_ telling people what it really is.

The real gasket for the valve cover on these things that you get from FRAM is made out of some sort of rubber. I don't know if there are silicons that have that texture or not...I saw RTV Silicon and figured that there were and I was getting the same thing I could buy locally but since I was buying the cover from them...

Oh well, I told them I was ****ed and I won't be buying there anymore. And I plan on spending lots of money buying jeep parts so they lost a good customer...and I've got a big mouth.

I tried to hold the thermostat cover on an old mustang with silicone... Lasted almost 22 seconds after I turned on the car... Had to get a bolt drilled out. I also learned not to jack the engine up by the harmonic balancer... Man, I learned a lot on that car...

Yeah, silicon works as a sealer for some things but won't hold to anything really. Definately not a great glue
