Have you ever SEEN something go supersonic?

This is an amazing video of some sort of aircraft breaking the sound barrier at very low altitude and in close proximity to the camera. This is simply amazing to look at - you can actually SEE the barier becasue it becomes surrounded by fog as the vehicle passes through it. Hard to explain - click here.

.....and if you thought that was cool, check out this one....

http://www.big-boys.com/articles/fastplanegone.html

(same jet, different cam?)

Not so cool for the pilot tho..

....I live in a city with an airbase practically next door, but i have never seen a jet crossing the sound barrier, as they only do this waaaay, way out at sea....or in real desolate places. At least here... I have heard one tho, made by an f-16, and it sounds like a large explosion far far away....

Whew - Wonder if that guy made it out alive! Looked horrific. I guess that can happen when you are moving faster than the sound of a Marshall Stack at full volume eh?

This was cool, yet tragic, however the most intriguing thing about this clip was during the intro credits which states that the ship was named the U.S.S. John Paul Jones. Interesting that a US Naval ship was named after the bass/keys player of an English Classic Rock band. Am I missing something here???
