Is the US Going Too Far? POLL
Boys arrested for stick figure drawings
Wednesday, January 26, 2005 Posted: 7:29 AM EST (1229 GMT)
OCALA, Florida (AP) -- Two boys were arrested for making pencil-and-crayon stick figure drawings depicting a 10-year-old classmate being stabbed and hung, police said. The children, charged with a felony, were taken from school in handcuffs.
The 9- and 10-year-old boys were arrested Monday and charged with making a written threat to kill or harm another person. They were also suspended from school.
One drawing showed the two boys standing on either side of the other boy and "holding knives pointed through" his body, according to a police report. The figures were identified by written names or initials.
Another drawing showed a stick figure hanging, tears falling from his eyes, with two other stick figures standing below him. Other pieces of scrap paper listed misspelled profanities and the initials of the boy who was allegedly threatened.
The boys' parents said they thought the children should be punished by the school and families, not the legal system.

The family should definitely take some responisibility. At the same time I don't think it would hurt for the law to step in and scare the b'jesus out of the little bastards either. Anything to prevent another Columbine, this sounds like the makings of a couple of twisted kids that could progress into something much worse.

I don't think it's going too far. These kids sound like they need a good scare. Maybe a little bullying from the cops will teach them to stop bullying themselves.

I think a few good swats on the ass would help direct these children to rightousness. My son's school doesn't believe in "Corporal Punishment". Hell, I am all for it! Several times in elementary school I was swatted for varying offenses from throwing snow balls to popping a paper bag in lunch (the WHOOOOLE cafeteria went silent, I was a fucking hero for 2 months after that one! ). BUT, I turned out semi-OK
And I would bet my left nut that had the school swatted these kids a few times, they wouldn't think about this crap again.

I don't think they should get away with it, but I do think calling this a felony is alot more than just scaring the kids, and the kids are facing a lot more than just some bullying from the cops.
I absolutely agree that the parents should take some of the responsibililty as well. After all, they are the keepers of the children and should have more access to them than anyone, and therefore should be able to spot why something like this might happen.

What's this world coming too! When I was a kid, the though of killing someone never crossed my mind, no matter how much I disliked the person. A good old fashion beating was always in order, but not murder. Everyone lived to hate each other and fight another day.
I attribute a lot of this brutality to TV, the government trying to tell parents how to raise their kids, and the decline of family values. Kids grow up watching death on TV everyday. Blowing the other guy makes you the hero nowadays.
I attended private schools when I was a kid up until right before high school (when I came to the us), and I used to get slapped by teachers for doing wrong, and then beat by my dad when I got home and he got the call from the teacher to tell him what I had done that day!
I think the government goes too far in everything it does. Couple of years back, you couldn't spank your children in public without having social services at your door. Now, they're being put in jail!
We don't have kids yet, but when we do, I'll have the good old fashion dad/son beatdown sessions my dad and i used to have. Him and my grandpa used to have them, my grandpa and his dad used to have them, and we alll turned out allright! I think!

They gave swats when I went to school and I can guarantee you that we had a lot less trouble than we do now, they didn't fuck around in those days they would crack your ass with a wooden swat and humiliate you in front of everyone.

When we fucked up bad in elementary, this teacher would have us come up to the teacher's riser and kneel on a square edge for 5 minutes, with our arms extented to your sides.
The discomfort and humiliation were enough to make us think twice about screwing around, and there were actually very few instances when she had to use this punishment. Maybe 3 times in a whole year.
This teacher was good and fair and knew how to reward too.
And what happened to writing standards? Never hurt anyone eiher, and it really drives the point home I think.

I don't think the US is going too far, the american press, on the other side, is lacking good news. For those who don't remember -i do- it was two little boys of only 9 years old that killed a third child, 2 years old...remember that??, and where it was?? I do.

I agree. When I got into Grade 5, It was like a Zoo. The Students tried to be the boss, and the Teachers couldnt do anything to them. I find that to be sheer stupidity. Why did they pull out Corporal Punishment... That was the best thing Teachers had! Abuse my ass, the kids are being more abusive to the Teachers by being rowdy and snotty then the Teachers do when they give them a good lickin'.

Sounds like someone wants to protect the future serial killers. LMAO cause if parents can't dicipline and your crying about the cops. We should just let children rule themselfs. I do not think so!!! Teach em a lesson now and that may be a future deterant.
Peace
I would never hit a women or a child!! I am a man not a bully.
