In whats turning out to be a wierd day, I took my boy to football training tonight and met up with one of the other Dads. We got talking about 2 months ago and I mentioned I was in a VH
tribute band. The following week he brings me 3 bootlegs from 1974-5 ONE of which I'm still waiting to find out from Van Halen devotees if anybody has actually heard this thing!!! So this week he gives me a
Dream Theater DVD 'Live In Tokyo 1993' as I'd played him their latest album last a couple of weeks ago. I say,'where did ya get this then?'. He says, 'Jimmy Page was going to Tokyo and asked me if I wanted anything bringing back'!?!?!?!?! Apparently Jimmy went to Tokyo and came back with 1500 DVD's as everywhere he went, they hero worshipped him and he didn't pay for one of them!!! This guy is called Simon Pallett and he wrote a Led Zeppelin book as well as articles for Guitarist, Kerrang! etc. He also went off first class with Page Plant on the 1996 US tour...and I meet him at my son's football training. Now I'm not a huge fan of Jimmy Page but I have MUCH respect for someone who is still a living legend and still selling like buggery. Turns out he lives in South Kensington in London at the moment while a house in Surrey is being done up...and next time Simon goes to see him, I'm going too! Whats great is that as I don't hero worship him, I'll just be able to yap with him without getting my boxers in a twist. What also amazes me is, having spent a good chunk of my life trying to get IN on stuff with record companies etc, I get a demo of Van Halen that is so rare no-one can give me any info AND the chance to meet Jimmy Page by going to my 5 year olds football practise...you couldn't make it up!!! I'll ask him if he remembers you VanMan2000!
