I'm a big fan of Apple products, but this is really lame and dishonest on their part.
I'm glad someone had the balls to bring this up and go public with it before too many people buy them for Xmas.

Hopefully Apple will do something about this scam.

I had been toying around with idea too, but was going to get a used one on eBay.

I was told that the issue is more prominent with original iPod, but may have been corrected with the new iPod.
Regradless the new iPod has not been out long enough to see whether or not it will last longer than the first generation.

A friend of mine is doing research oversees to see if he can locate a manufacturer that makes these batteries for the iPod. Apparently the battery is specific to the model. It's the size of a credit card, just twice as thick...
If he can find out where to get the replacement battery he can replace it for much less money that Apple is charging...
