Im having the hardest time figuring out why these guys are so popular. Based solely on word of mouth, I must have listened to "Deloused In the Comatorium" like 7 times to see if there was something I liked, or something I hadn't heard on the first time around.

Instead of growing on me, the album just kind of grated me more with each listen. These guys seem to have a fair degree of technical talent, however, they seem to me incapable of writing any kind of melody or emotion for me to latch on too. Their music seems highly pretentious to me, like they are saying to themselves "Screw making quality music, lets just try to be as weird and different as possible", (which is hardly ever a good thing).

So, for the great masses of people out there who like these guys, what is it that you like about this album? Am I totally off base here, in which ways does their music touch you?

I have a few friends who are really into them. I havent listened that much to them. Listening to deloused right now.
Cant say I find it to be either especially good or especially bad.
Wouldnt say they're all that weird and different either. Arent there a bunch of new pop/rock band that sound like this?

they are rather shit, ive heard a bit and the only good song is Roulette Dares, and thats pretty shit except the chorus

listen to the drummer. He is is fu***ng amazing.
Listen to the guitars. Fu**** amazing, too.


They can play that stuff live as well. Right now they play 3 hours live - no break. I cannot explain I just love them.

deloused is shit, listen to the next few albums they pick up on the prog rock of the seventies, mahavishnu orchestra santana and fuse it to more modern sounding stuff. they are pretty damn good, but his voice can push the envelope. that;'s the point! there aren't too many bands that sound like that, as not too many can channel all those old school influences well
