McCartney or Lennon?

A simple yet complex question here: Whose post-Beatles work do you enjoy more and why?

I have a hard time with this one. Lennon was so bitter after the Beatles broke up much of his music was difficult to take. Add to that the overproduction of Phil Spector and the overYokoing of Yoko and you've got a recipie for disaster. Even so, there is that Lennon brilliance shining through. I espeically like his last work, Double Fantasy.

McCartney has always had a way with a hook and a cacthy line. Sure he writes a lot of "Silly Love Songs" but who cares? His work with Wings was incredible and his sheer output of quality product is amazing. Even into the 90's he's been relevant - witness teh genius of his solo album of 1997, Flaming Pie.

At the end of the day, I guess I'm more of a McCartney guy but it really depends on my mood de jour.

Re: McCartney or Lennon?

I am definitely more of a McCartney fan, I agree about him with Wings. Lennon was a brilliant song writer in his own right as well and to this day makes an impact on me when I hear it, especially Imagine. As a person I thought it was sad to see what he became with Yoko and the fact that he virtually went out of his way to not to be a father to Jullian. A real talent that will never get a good break because he carries his father's name.

I have many McCartney songs and recently caught his special on CBS, what a treat that was! For his age he can still belt them out and I got chills when he did Black Bird accoustically by himself.

I saw him in concert at Madison Square Garden last year and it was, quite simply, the best show I've ever seen.

If you can, grab the DVD - it's deliciously wonderful.

I was going to come in and say that Ringo wins "by a nose" over both of them..

I have always been a McCartney guy myself. It used to piss me off when hardcore Lennon fans said that if John wasn't your favorite, you weren't a Beatles fan. Sound familiar, VH fans?

Lennon just went too weird on me after The Beatles broke up, while Paul was still writing stuff that was easy to sing along to. I'm sure the Lennon fans that were on every drug known to man during the 70's would beg to differ though.
