Music or Data CD-R?

I was told there is no difference between a data and a music CD-R. Looks like you're charged more for CD-R dedicated to music...
I've been using the cheapest CD-R I could find and haven
t had a problem with them.

You thoughs?

I just buy the cheapies, the only difference I guess is that when I burn MP3's they tend to skip a little more.

Re: Music or Data CD-R?

I was told the reason why the music ones are more expensive would be because part of what you pay is going to ASCAP or something like it...
I don't know if it's true or horsepoo...

Re: Music or Data CD-R?

There is no difference betweeen cd-r's that say music and those that say data. A cdr is a cdr. The only reason that some say music and some do not is marketing. That's it, I've used both types for both purposes and have had no trouble. I've also used the cheap ones with no problem. Imation makes a cheap unbranded line called SpinX that work great. My local Office Depot has 100 pack spindles for $29.99, haven't come across a bad one yet and have probably bought four or five of them in the last few months.

Re: Music or Data CD-R?

The only real difference between the two is most stand alone burners can only use the music cd-r's, but if you are using a computer burner there really isn't that much of a difference.

Re: Music or Data CD-R?

I think personally the cheaper ones start to skip after a few days from burning them but sound quality is the same..i always get mine from costco ...I get like 100 for $30-$35 and usally theres a rebate so i send away to get some of the cash back..

Re: Music or Data CD-R?

Everytime I have used a MUSIC CD-R to burn music onto it, I have found that the results are bad. The quality isn't as good, or it just seems to deterirate over time.

I gave up using these MUSIC CDR's pretty damn sharpish.

Now I only use brand names Data CDRs for music or data. I've mainly use SONY XOs, & MEMOREX and have had no problems. I've had mixed results with unbranded CDRs, so I tend to stay away from these if I can.

[/ QUOTE ]I had a no-name DVD player that I got free with my internet service--it played EVERYTHING (including DVDs from Japan, and VCDs from The Netherlands--thanks again, siN ) UNTIL one of my kids put in an Office Depot CD-r that was scratched up.

I had a helluva a time REMOVING it, and now I can't get any video!!!!

It took awhile just to find another DVD player that has no region restrictions on the types of discs it could play.

Some name brands will play some kinds, but not others, and vice versa
