New DIGITAL Drivers License (NJ)
I took off a bunch of days to finish work on my home and to spend some time at the beach. Since I had off I decided to update my NJ drivers license. You need SIX pieces of ID to to obtain one now. I guess this is linked to the Patriot Act and I know NJ is a late comer...NY and some other states already went digital a while ago. I went there at 8:30am and it took two and a half hours to accomplish this goal. I am the 3rd Peter in my family so I started using my confirmation name years ago to differentiate. Since my birth certificate had no middle initial, they had to contact Trenton and do a background check on me. I was repeated told :just a few more minutes, sir" while others were done in 8-10 minutes. I had to show birth certificate (original), marriage license (original), old drivers license, a gas bill to prove address, my Passport, and my Social Security Card. Christ almighty I never thought I would have to work this hard to prove my identity. Seven people were turned away for either lack of all proof needed or problems with the proof they brought. One dude yelled out, all pissed off, if the lady wanted to count the wrinkles on his scrotum for additional proof of ID. At least that amused me a bit...
Just thought I'd share.
All said and done...2 and 1/2 hours of my time. My name on driver's license now matches name on birth certificate. Passport expires in '06 and still uses middle initial so I am sure I am going to be fucked with for that until I renew it to match certificate.
