New Orleans Violence
They are now having a hard time evactuating refugees because people are shooting at and mauling rescuers. This is just unbelievable, a policy of "shoot these bastards on site" is in order, no questions asked. It's just sad that there are people like this out there.

We've seen the footage of New Orleans in the papers and on the TV and it's amazing that people can become primeval when they should be banding together! I hope these sad fuckers wake and feel that the clothes they've stolen don't seem so hot when they put them on. At the same time I can understand a Father or Mother taking food and drink from a shop to feed their young. I can believe the devestation that Katrina caused...unbelievable that the elements and the ocean can take back that which has taken centuries to claim.

It really is sad. I am not in their position, but it really looks like several people have taken complete advantage of this situation...

I don't think anyone would argue taking food, clothing or anything they need to survive. It's those using guns or brute force that are impeding the rescue efforts, people who are shooting at those trying to rescue people and bring in aid.

It is a very sad state. I agree, food and clothing is one thing.

Very sad indeed. I don't have a problem with folks getting food and dry clothes any way they see fit. After all, pretty much evrything is going to rot our there. But the ganging up and the violence is despicable. Human nature at its worst...
And to think that the hurricane season just started. Makes you wonder where it's going to hit next and what kind of damage will occur.
Also reminds me that here in Cali, we're overdue for another earthquake. Last big on was in 1994...

This is what I am talking about, from CNN:
Quote:
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) -- As police and National Guard troops struggled to restore order Thursday in New Orleans, emergency teams suspended boat rescue operations because conditions in the flooded city were too dangerous, rescuers said.
CNN's Rick Sanchez reported that authorities were concerned for the rescuers' safety because some people have become violent toward the rescuers.
|
Not only do they have to rescue people, they have to fight armed civilians to do it. Goddamn, it is fucking outrageous that our society is like this.

Reminds me of when I was a kid watching the coverage of the Watts riots in LA. There was rampant looting there also, the national guard opened fire and dropped a couple of them in their tracks..................end of looting. But then again this is a different situation, and I would hate to see someone pay with their life for trying to help their family survive. But if you've got a TV on your shoulder, then it's open season as far as I am concerned. Especially if your taking shots at rescuers to protect your right to loot.

With so much violence going around who can blame Blanka's brother from Street Fighter 2 for grabbing a few beers to bring back to the DOME.

It seems like tragic situations like this always bring out the best and worst in humanity. The whole situation makes me very very sad.

You have to wonder how it is all the reporters can get in there and film everyone suffering but nobody else can show up with food or water

This is beyond incredible... The shootings and looting alone... I just can't comprehend it.
